My experience in Mallorca was having a 32t cog was worthwhile if only to have a break from time to time. On long climbs there is little time for a rest, so being able to have another cog and slowdown / take a breather for a minute was invaluable, then back onto the 30 or 28 and do a bit of work. The longest climb I did was Puig Major @ 13.5km. It took me over an hour to do, but that was at a comfortable pace.

So true, though I use a 40t Cass I occasionally go above 32t. The 36 and 40t is for very steep sections 20% or more and when I need to take a breather and just pootle up hills. It's quite enjoyable being able to climb in zone 2 taking in the sights. No need to kill yourself when the views can be spectacular.

Pyrenees guys, don't forget to stop often and enjoy the scenery :okay:

Lee there is no difference in using 10 speed to 11 speed, well not discernable. I use an 9 speed big chain ring on my 11 speed Tripster.

This. You’re good to go! Well... apart from all the other stuff we can try and justify buying in the next two months!

campag do faff around making things slightly different so sets are not compatible , i had to take a dremel out to one chainring just to file some edges off
i have ordered one so we will see - hope it fits as it would be nice to have it there just in case , i dont think it would be used on a normal day in the office but if its a windy horrible day then it would be nice just to sit down and forget about things for a bit

I know what you mean and the sense of achievement smashing a big climb. Beware of fatigue mid to latter part of week if you don't have an easy day part way

Yeah I know you’re right mate. I was joking really. I don’t think anyone will believe what I’m saying until they see it but... It won’t be a race for me.

thanks tommy bridgy and andy for info regarding the size frame I should get 90% sure ill get the 56 tarmac just need to see if I can get a deal over the bank holiday weekend

It’s a beautiful frame mate. Unbelievable really how lively it is. Bike magazines do talk a load of bolloks but you really can throw it into corners. Even though I’ve bought a new frame I’m definitely keeping the tarmac too.
You’ll do very well to get a deal though Rob. Unless you know someone who can get you a staff discount Specialized won’t discount that frame for a long time. My frame came out in 2015 and it was still full price after the new version came out for a while apart from the odd colour they couldn’t shift.
When your planning your build rob have a think about the crank arms. Specialized use a bb30 bottom bracket. Which means. If you want to run shimano chainset you have to get an adaptor to convert it to 24mm. Even though I was running dura ace at first, I got s works crank arms and praxis chainrings instead of a dura ace chainset to avoid using an adapter.

It’s true what I said about the deep rims. Honestly they’re probably completely wasted on most of us. I’m not saying don’t get a set though. I definitely would! I don’t care if it’s vanity. They look bloody fantastic, they make a brilliant noise, especailly in numbers. And I honestly think they encourage you to push harder so in that sense they do make you faster.

Talking about deep rims, I still haven't ridden my new Domane SLR and now I can't as it's got no wheels!

I found out that Trek/Bontrager released an upgraded version of the Aeolus 3 (35mm) wheels just a month or so after I got mine with the bike, and my local shop that sold me the bike very kindly agreed to exchange the wheels for the new ones.

So I've gone for the Aeolus XXX 4 (47mm) for the extra bling. They are a little wider and at 47mm are only 1g heavier than the previous 35mm ones, so no weight penalty for the extra depth. Only problem is I have to wait until June at least to get them! I may have to nick my wife's DT 470 wheels to ride the new bike, now the better weather is almost here.

If anyone fancies a pair of brand new Aeolus 3 TLR Disc D3 35mm carbon wheels the shop are selling them at a very attractive discount off the £2,000 new price. Great wheels if you are looking for 35mm (disc) rims and a good deal! ;)

Ridleys are lovely bikes , i had a noah fast a few years ago and that was brilliant , i only got rid because it was slightly big for me as there sizing is different to most , usually on the cusp between small and medium ( believe it or not ) but with the noah i was definitely not a medium !
the fenix sl i think would be a bit more relaxed
