I like that colour too. That colour with everything else black and no logos, deep rims, would look super clean. I’ve seen a few different colours but you never know what’s going to be available. Specialized uk seem to pick out the most conservative ones... I saw the choices Thailand have and they had loads more than we get.

Regarding etap I don’t know to be honest. Historically shimano release new stuff loads more than sram but I know what you mean. You could always get a mix of uktrgra and dura ace. You won’t notice the weight difference I dont think but you might just prefer the look of one over the other. I like the duranace chain set a little more but that’s just me. You’d think it wouldn’t be a problem getting it under 7kg.

Nice choices to have! :hungry:

Just as many people say 32 will be fine as those that say it won’t. And yep, Oval is in part a purchase with knee in mind. They do look frigging great regardless of shape.

Yeah same as aleman. They look damn cool whether they make a difference or not!

I think with the 30/32 cassette it varies from one frame to another. What about one of those link things for the rear derailleur?

Can i butt in on hardware?
Thinking getting some absoluteBLACK chainrings for the Pyrenees -48/32 to avoid a new rear derailleur and cassette to go to 30/32.
so 48/32 with a 28
Anyone any experience of these?

Just a heads up. When I swapped out my new ultegra gs I had to cut down the cable housing because the location of the low profile is on the inside.

Edit: only mentioning it because I didn’t read any instructions until after I already installed it and had to start over.

Yeah, and i think more troublesome on a 142 thru axle frame as opposed to 135 or 130. Thought about a link but gonna keep it simple. If i get them and they work for me then they will end up on the TCR or any other lightweighht mountain climbing bike so not worried about spinning out on the downs, just being able to spin up comfortable on the ups.

I use a link/hanger extension on my setup with a 42 cassette. Easy to install, setup and tweak if needed. I think it took all together about 30 minutes to get it spot on. 15 minutes to install the new cassette and extender and dial in the deraileur for good changes and a further 15 minutes on and off over a few days to get it spot on. I'm no bike mechanic but I can follow a youtube video.

Plan B?

Black chain is optional :becool:

Seriously though if you can get that chainset to work it’s a good idea I think. If you were only to use it for mountain climbing trips it should be pretty easy to swap in and out.

Tommy, have you thought about protecting the C64 some how? I've had my matte black Bianchi Infinito CV frame, forks and cranks wrapped by this guy, he does gloss as well. www.cyclewrap.co.uk

Bob, what cadence can you maintain sat down going up the Zwift Alp? If it's above 85rpm then your current gearing will most likely be ok for the Pyrenees. You can get 11-34t shimano Cass, and it will fit a SS cage. My in-law tried the 11-34 on his bike before he swapped the derailleur to a GS(only because it was free). It all depends whether you want a bailout gear for when you become tired/leg relief.

Andy, tbh I rode at 80/85 Cadence in the Alps, Ventou etc at 34/28 and reckon I should still be fine doing so in the Pyrenees. Except this will be the first time in a few years I will be doing 2 or even 3 climbs a day. That might take a toll. Also, as Tommy knows there seems to be a bit of anxiety around gearing on our Pyrenees whatsapp group and everyone seems to be going lower than 34/28! Problem with going to a 34 on back , even a 32 is the jumps. My interest has nothing to do with fact everyone is buying cool stuff and I need to as well:whistle:

all this bling :becool::biggrin:
getting close now aint it
serious question - i have 2 choices of bike that i want to take
focus with 34-29 campag gearing - favourite
planet x with 34-32 shimano gearing - more aggressive set up not for long days
i was looking at ways to get a 33tooth inner ring on focus but that has come to nothing , but i have also been on other forums where campag users are bobbing about in the mountains with no problems
what would you do ?
* just seen bobs post - just needed to see someone who has done it before *
what sort of milage / elevation are we doing a day ?

Hi kip

I have mate yes. Specifically the chain stay area. I bought some 3M helitape but the chainstays have a curve to them so it’s going to be a pain in the arse to avoid creases. What does that guy do, is it some type of heat shrink? I’d definitely be interested.

Have a play on this site
http://www.gear-calculator.com/?GR=...50&RZ2=11,12,13,14,15,17,19,22,25,28&UF2=2099
choosing gear ratios becomes addictive once you see what the combinations can do.

He uses xpel tape (www.xpel.com), basically used for cars. He measures the bike up and then laser cuts the tape. I don't think he heats it. He had some problems with my head tube as it is really hourglass in shape, so he had to do a few smaller sections. But he aid if he finds a better way he'll call me so that he can do it again. He did a really good job, you can see where it ends, but that's mostly as it's matte and on a black bike. The tape it self healing with warm water, so if you get a mark / scratch on it you just pour some warm water on it. There are some other treatments like GTechniq ceramic protection.
