You don't really need to do either of the Dragons, yes they're memorable for their steepness, but what is more wonderful is the scenery, especially if the weather stays good for you

Last year the short route did the staircase but not the elbow. This year it's the other way round, but will still be a good ride.

what ive made of the route we still do the staircase but its at bout 70 ish miles in
we come out of county then about 20 ish miles in we join the rd before the blacks that takes us to trecastle same rd where tommy and dean joined us then us on the shorter route go to the military rd longer route the elbow after the military rd we kind of looping our way back via the staircase

So you reckon the shorter ride does both the Devils Rob? Tbh their route maps are bloody awful!

No the shorter route does just the staircase
If u look at the maps the elbow is the section that goes over the writing Brecon beacons on the longer route

4000ft is ok its when it on top of 8000ft randy the shorter route is about 8000ft of climbing but the longer route is near 12000 ft of climbing way above my ability last summer i was often cycle 6000 to 7000 and the single D last year done me in I said then never again but I have a short memory and forgotten the pain and suffering last year

It looks like an added 30 mile loop not too far in. I would be willing to try it if everyone else will.
Are you trying to kill us!!!!! To be fair though, if this is your only time in the UK, and the only time you'll ever attempt this ride, will you end up going back home regretting not attempting the longer route? If it's anything like last year (and I've not looked at the maps so not sure this year), the decision to do the long or short route was made at about the 70 mile mark. @rob01792 or @Add might know if the same decision can be made this year. Looks like I need to be training for the longer route then :headshake:

I seem to recall you enjoying it last year .... those last 30 miles we rode alone, you was singing the whole time. At least, that's what my recall is of that day but to be fair, I think I passed out at one stage so my memory may not be too reliable either

C’mon...what the hell... we can’t send Randy home not having the full DD under his belt can we? Plus we can all call Andy CXR the lightweight, because he didn’t do the 130 mile version! ☺️
