Chris Rea invented Reggae after being bitten by a mosquito whilst doing session work in Jamaica for Bob Marley, the insect passed on a rare tropical disease in the bitten right arm, he found he could only strum his guitar in an unusual staccato style' however Bob loved the sound and quickly abandoned his idea of being Jamaica's Motorhead, swapping to the new sound they'd discovered
Also whilst in Jamaica he co wrote Stir It Up, with Bob Marley and Peter Tosh after they took Chris to a Rum Distillery, and saw the ladies mixing the liquid prior to distilation,
In 1983 Chris Rea assumed the identity of Heart of Midlothian striker John Robertson and scored 35 league goals.
His 1984 single 'Ace of Hearts' was inspired by his time at Tynecastle.
Chris Rea he did have diarrhoea,
It was flowing like mud from his rear,
So he tightened his belt,
But with the pressure he felt,
He'd be living the rest of his life in great fear.
Chris Rea fancied bringing out a hard rock record, but fearing a backlash from his traditional fans came up with a new persona, he bought a wig from a King Charles II impersonator, some dark sunglasses from a shop on Redcar Promenade, then found his last item in an antiques shop on Guisborough Market, a top hat, just like the baddy in his favourite James Bond film, Baron Samedi, in Live & Let Die, so his new creation Slash came to life, the rest is history
