I don't own a car. My phone battery has never gone completely flat, even when I got up at 04:00, did a 225km bike ride, got back, and eventually went to bed at midnight. I still had plenty of charge left.

I think you probably meant spending large parts of their life outdoors sat at a pub/cafe table constantly checking X/Facebook/TikTok?!

Cyclechat my level of SM!🤣🤣🤣

Aplogies for the car accusation - I completely misread your post! Anyway, your post does describe "popping downstairs" to their charger (indoors, one assumes) frequently, which is very different to a 0400h 225km day. So I feel you somewhat misled me!

Anyway, the only time I've had a phone battery die was after midnight, following about ~30h of riding. Or in other words:
circumstances vary.

Android and Google's silly design choices wrt the alarm clock.

I have an alarm set at a specific time. Why the heck does Google want to remind me 1 or 2 hours before? At least give me the option to switch off this stupid feature (ps if anyone knows, post here please!)

You can delete the pre set reminder and set your own.

I set my alarm in the Clock app, and never have any advance reminders. This is on a Samsung Galaxy phone, so that may not be the standard Google clock.

Which app are you using?

Mmm, today had an annoying experience in Keele services. The food outlets were Burger King & KFC. Went for for former but it seemed I had to order from a laser display board rather than simply looking at a list and asking for whatever. I got really cross when the menu then insisted I ordered a drink. before ordering. I'd had enough by this point so went to the M&S stall in a huff for a sandwich. I was then in a bit of trouble with the generally delightful Mrs PP for over-reacting, though in fairness after she'd had a portion of chips and her own sandwich I was forgiven and all was well with the world after all.

Anyhow, wtf with having a system where you practically need training to order a bloomin' burger AS A CUSTOMER?

We ain't stopping at Keele again, that's for sure

That's generally just a good plan overall from my experience
mind you - I tend to have these little rules and keep them for years - over which time the whole places changes

so a lot of the places I don;t go to are probably OK now!!!!

The funny thing is, my children much prefer ordering from the machine rather than interacting with real people.

I think society is going that way sadly.

I am quite happy using the screens
especially if the grandkids are with me as I can take my time and let them help without worrying that I am holding other people up and stuff
(I tend to over worry at times!)

but if there is some kind of unusual problem - like my need for gluten free - then the screen are often not enough and I need to talk to someone

so on that basis they need a member of staff hanging around near the screens to help and answer question

who could just as easily be standing behind a counter taking orders
OK - not quite - standing around near the screen they can also clear tables nearby at quiet time

but that staff savings are not as good as they first look
