Black Friday. As if Christmas wasn't a big enough opportunity for retailers to try and sell us stuff that we don't need.

And of course anyone who actually needs something that they could save money on by getting it in the Black Friday sale won't be able to get a look in for the hordes.

Driving to work this morning, about a mile from home and I'm getting the sun right in my eyes at a certain point, as I do in a couple of other places during the journey. That's not the gripe as it's just geography and changing seasons ~ what pees me off is that I had exactly the same last month, before we put the bloody clocks back!
Multiply this by thousands of times across the country, coupled with the inevitable crashes caused by it and you wonder why the hell we still bother.

If you had the same problem, before and after the clocks were altered, it wasn't the fact that the clocks went back an hour that was the issue.

You're certain about that?

No I'm not. Depends on if your travel is at the same time every day.
I was out and about on my motorbike, the sun's low trajectory was giving me endless grief , having g to ride west on my way home , tried to avoid it by going South, but still had to travel west.
Would have done better pulling over for a bit ,but places to be.

You're certain about that?

Without knowing the time they commute at, it is impossible to be absolutely certain. But if you are commuting at a time in the morning when the sun is low in the sky at the start of October, then if the clocks hadn't gone back, it would still be dark at the same time at the start of November.

And it is certainly the result of the clocks going back that the sun is now in the same place in the sky it was a month ago at that time.

If it were evening, then the time it was low sun would now be after dark, so it can't have been that.

Bloody 'ell, I've opened a can of worms here!
I was just referring to the fact that when I head off roughly east at about 7:50am I get the sun in my eyes for parts of the route around mid October then again at this time of November, which I wouldn't if the clocks hadn't gone back. I don't have the problem coming home at this time of year as it's dark by then.

I know what you mean and I've had similar struggles in the past, both as a biker and a driver. I don't necessarily agree with the clocks going back anyway; surely it's cheaper and safer for it to be lighter later? In fact I think there was a campaign some years ago that was actually called "lighter, later". If anything I'd prefer darker mornings but longer evenings so they should go forward 2 hours

It is rather odd. There have been a number of campaigns asking for the clock changes to be scrapped, many people don't like them. But almost every country in the world outside the tropics implements changes of an hour at around the same times of year.

The clocks going back for us is actually them going to "normal" time, when we are on UST (what used to be called GMT). The summer is when they are "off", initially in order to make more use of the light in the morning.

You might want to check your spelling in that post .
