Shop assistants (chip shop in this case) who offer forward the contactless machine for you to present your card to... but don't show you the screen.
I don't know if they put £8, £80, or £800 ?

It's always met with.. can I see the screen please ?

Our contactles machines point the screen at the customer. Oddly our till doesn't do the sme for cash payments, although we automatically give receipts out.

The lack of a display is annoying, especially as we have many customers who don't speak German.

Labelled up a parcel yesterday and clicked the postman collection option. He didn’t turn up today, so I popped it down to the post office.

then received this, you couldn’t make it up. :banghead:

I'm guessing they pay the postie less to pick it up than the postmaster to handle it.

My son gets all his parcels picked up now as
1) it's cheaper
2) it's more convenient.

Auto Standby on modern electronic devices, specifically our TV. After it's been on a while it flashes a little message up saying 'as no button has been pressed for a long time Auto Standby mode will be activated, press any button to cancel' despite the fact that the TV is clearly in use!
I know I don't actually watch the TV channels on the set, it's used via the recorder box or streaming thingy, with the volume controlled with the sound system, but surely it can tell it's still in use? I'll decide when to switch the TV off thanks, so GTF with your ruddy eco friendly, energy saving bollox. It consumes the same amount of energy as one of those tiny lightbulbs that great aunt Millie had in her china cabinet in 1973 anyway.
The ridiculous irony is that we've only had this TV about six months, it replaced a previous one that expired at less than two years old!
If you want to be eco friendly make stuff that bloody lasts you cretins :cursing:.

Not only that - but to stop the thing going into standby you have to find the remote control that never gets used

SO it will inevitably be down the side of the sofa or on the floor somewhere!

Why is getting a replacement SIM card so bleeding impossible?

I can go into a shop, pick a phone & plan I want to upgrade to with not one check made on me. Yet when the network says there's an problem and the SIM card requires replacing, their own systems say it can't be done without either a passport or driving licence. I'm free to walk out with a handset worth around a £1,000, but getting a £1 SIM card no chance.

They claim it's to prevent fraud on the account.

I've had my number used by someone else, on a new device and contract in my name, switched to EE from Orange. Using a different bank to set a direct debit up.

Both numbers remained active, until paying my bill in the shop brought up the wrong account a few months later. I used to take the bill in and they'd take the account number from that.

Call queues that are experiencing unprecedented demand…

What, more than 1 call?

I have said this before - well ranted about it before - so I'll keep it brief
I used to work on the IT systems for a call centre
the managers used to HAVE to (i.e. if you don;t you're sacked) keep the normal wait time for customers to 10 seconds

That was a while ago - the same company now has a wait time of about a minute on my limited experience

The difference between 10 seconds and 30 minutes is 2 things
a) planning - call volume is predictable - very predictable
b) money - i.e. the number of staff answering the phones
c) how much they value their customers - where I worked the customers would probably be ordering stuff - so delays could result in them hanging up and going somewhere else

The "you call is important to us" and "unexpected call volume" is total bollox!!!

Dear booking.com,
I booked a hotel in (insert place name here) and went there. It was nice.
For the next six months, you keep spamming me to go there *again*
Sort yourself out!
Hugs and kisses,
Me.
Same hotel or hotel in the same area so they can "ask" for another review, for another hotel.
