People coming to the front door trying to make me sign for something.

Thankfully this and telemarketing rare because it's technically illegal under most circumstances, but today I had someone from Telekom trying to persuade me to sign up to their fibre optic connection.

He started badly, by being on my doorstep unanounced.

Then he started the spiel, which assumed I already knew about it (I'd heard something, but not registered it); assumed I wanted to have a connection to the fibre optic system, and was heavy on "I need to come and check your router right now, it'll only take five minutes." It was noticably short on how much this will cost; something I've known Telekom doing before.

As I hadn't considered this, I don't really care and my current connection works for Cycle Chat and anything else I need, and if I'm going to change something I want to find out the pros and cons and decide in my own time, not in fifteen seconds flat, thankyouverymuch.

I said I'd rather make an appointment, but I was about to go on holiday so it would have to be in two weeks.

"Oh, that'll be to late" he said.

"Okay, then I'll leave it. Bye."

Thankfully my front door porch is sideways so anyone coming to the door has to pass in front of the living room window from which they can be seen at the door also from the open plan staircase so rarely do I open the door in error.

Stupid surveys with little to no incentive to complete them.

For example: I have recently bought a DeWalt 18V XR Combi Drill from Toolstation

Today, I get an email from them, asking me to rate their site and, in return, I could win a DeWalt 18V XR Combi Drill

We had that after planning a funeral.

A few weeks later, chirpy ads trying to sell us more funeral stuff...

Let's wait for someone else to die first, eh?!

When I moved house in the mid 90’s the windows were wooden frame single glazed and not in a good state ( I was aware of there condition before I moved) So had all replaced with UPVC double glazing .
I’m sure you know what happened next , I was bombarded with sales brochures and phone calls , luckily pre Email for me . They finally got the message, when during one sales call I said your company has replaced all my windows and the patio doors , are you proposing too come round and knock some holes in the walls so you can fit more windows.

Wonky blinds, or blinds with inconsistently-angled slats. Not acceptable!

Bit of a rant -

I'm in charge of sustainability at my company and something I'm well aware of is the line between preaching and trying to be encouraging. I don't patronise people and I try to set a good example without being a tree-hugging freak. So it boils my piss when the sustainability manager of Balfour Beattie is posting his holiday photos from Bali on LinkedIn and going on about how one of the islands has banned diesel generators so air quality is much, much better. He's returned from his holidays saying "Between returning relaxed and having a taste of a life without diesel emissions I have never been more motivated to improve air quaility and reduce Co2 wherever I can."

What the actual fark? He's responsible for over 4 tonnes of CO2 just for himself and he's wittering on about trying to reduce CO2!

Fair enough he wanted a holiday but to fly to the other side of the world then say it's inspired him is taking the piss.

Doesn't reflect well on his company either.

Only if you live in a densely populated area.

I can't remember the last time we had an unsolicited sales type knock on the door.

You’re lucky. Even though I’m on the outskirts of Glasgow, I’ve had two in the past week; one for solar panels and the other for milk deliveries. I try to be pleasant to them as I know everyone has to make a living but not everyone has the choice of how they’d prefer to do it.
