An antique said one repair engineer. Another that it was old but would last forever (German made) unlike the current Chinese made models

A former gym friend contacted me via 'social media' the other week. He stopped contacting about 6 months ago after taking the huff over my sleeping habits, or should I say sleeping times. He can't seem to accept that I go to bed very late and get up late. I sent him a link to a newspaper story the other night, at about 4.30am. When i woke the following afternoon, I looked to see he'd posted "What time do you go to bed????!!!!, complete with an angry face emoji. I didn't reply and haven't done so yet. He's had a go at my sleeping times a few times before. WTF has my sleeping times got to do with him! He's also had a few pops at me for receiving P.I.P, saying "If you can get it why can't I"??!! I once asked him what medical condition he has that might allow him to claim the benefit. He replied that he has a sore foot from running. He can't seem to accept that I've had quite a few health problems, leading to a few disabilities plus I'm 23 years older than his 39 years. I'd compare his petty jealousy to me getting het up over someone aged 85 getting a bus pass or subsidised meals at an old folks centre. WTF is it to him, what time I go to bed, or get up?! When I was his age I worked in a local brewery, rolling heavy beer barrels and moving crates around. All he does is test factory air vents for Legionnaires Disease and live with his mum and dad rent free!

An alarm on my phone wakes me up in the morning so I have it about 50 cms from my head while I am asleep.

Like you, I usually stay up late and then get up late. So, the other day I went to sleep at 05:00 but was woken at 06:10 by a text message from my early-rising sister asking me something which could have waited 5 or 6 hours. I wasn't happy...

At a guess, I would say that your message woke the man up in the middle of the night and that is why he was not happy with you!

(Before anybody suggests that I turn my phone off before I go to sleep, I actually want people with URGENT messages for me to be able to contact me so I don't want to do that.)

Fair point. I have my phone turned on all the time. If I'm asleep any alert won't wake me up, but if you're not a good sleeper and up early then yes It could be annoying. I might send him, a text as I post at this not too late an hour for me. Only joking. ;)

If it's Android you can use the Do not Disturb feature to limit the people that can call and message you between certain hours.

The trouble is that most of the problem is caused by the people that I want to be able to contact me in an emergency!

I suppose that I should just make it clear that they should leave me alone until (say) 10:00 unless the matter is important.

PS The reason that I am awake after only 3 hours sleep today is that my guest woke me to scrounge a biro to use to write her diary entries!
