As remote as it may seem my sister had it happen, she didn't realise until some time after, she started to get a pain in her ear & thought she could feel something in there, her husband looked, then got a pair of tweezers & extracted the remains of the moth, the head was still intact.

Besides, although I've seen a Small Elephant Hawkmoth and a Hummingbird Hawkmoth locally, I have never (knowingly) seen a Deaths Head. I am not even sure of their current distribution pattern nationally.

I know I am missing the point, species-wise, but I can think of more pressing things to be worried about.

@Phaeton I have heard of flies doing that to be fair.
