I don't watch a lot of telly. I tend to record stuff to watch later. Mostly films.
If you record telly at Christmas there's loads of adverts for Boxing day sales.
I've spent enough for now!
They're really annoying!

Amen to that @cyberknight

Got to replace a sticky rear brake cable and am putting off as I just know there will be some snag that means it takes way longer than it should. Last time, no matter how carefully or what technique I used to trim the cable, the end that was left would separate out into separate strands. Bloody infuriating! 🤬

Waiting for an interminable time on hold to companies the 'really value my custom'. This is made even worse by lift-musak that stops for a second, making me think that I've finally got through, only to find that it's the C90 cassette tape doing it's next loop.

Do you not fast forward through them. I record all commercial channel programs on a PVR that has a minute skip button so four presses of that usually takes the recording to the end of them.

If your PVR is the same as mine (Humax Foxsat), you can also configure the skip back (Replay) button for, say, 15 seconds - that way if you overshoot when skipping past the ads, 2 or 3 presses on skip back usually does the trick.

Just received a letter from the Nottinghamshire victims care unit, 2 of the lines on it has me spitting feathers for some inexplicable reasons

Access to specialist support (such as signposting). WTF is signposting, if I don't know what it is how can I know if I need it!
Crime Prevention measures (including target hardening). Again WTF is target hardening!

Why can't these pretentious knobs talk English, who do they think their target audience is?

As said in the fettling thread easy jobs that take 10 times longer than they should even though you know what to do and have done them many times before but they refuse to play nice .

I hear you.it's remarkable how many nasty surprises a "simple" bicycle can store up for the unwary. I suspect many of the bikes donated to us are cases of this, because often I find something, like a brake or gear that's clearly been worked on and refused to improve, making an otherwise perfectly good bike useless.

If you can understand it, you can measure how well they're doing; it makes them accountable.

Sorry @Andy in Germany but I can't understand it, how can I measure it or is that your point & who are they accountable to?

That's my point. If we can't understand what the department is doing, they don't then have to show progress in six months. For example "Access to specialist support for all applicants within x weeks of making the first contact by June 2023." is clear, you can see the goal, and check up on progress.
Alternatively they're so used to living in the "victim support" bubble they aren't aware this is jargon. We get this with some graduates here who talk like a sociology essay.

The one I am referencing is a Panasonic Freeview PVR. Also has a 10 sec skip back button; a recording off More 4 needed 5 minutes forward and 20 seconds back
