While you are in that section...

I found that some things were not working as they should. For example, photos taken on the phone often took an awfully long time to sync to Google Photos. I eventually found that the process that does it was being paused by Adaptive Battery so I turned that off. Now photos start to sync as soon as a data connection is available.

Members of the public who see a No Admittance, Staff only, Private, etc. sign on a door and think it means one of:
Try to follow a staff member through.
Ask if it’s alright if they just have a little peep. (Do they really want to see the staff toilets?)
Rattle the door handle.

The wind / birds / neighbours cat / whatever when doing outside DIY. Saturday afternoon managed to completely lose a plastic washer for a new outdoor light. Earlier in the afternoon had to hunt for both which might just
been a case of them becoming invisible on the wheelie bin lid until they fell off and were spotted. Had them on the flat roof of the bike shed but when I went for them only one.
Looked all over and could not find it. Sunday morning I did find it, on the slabs to the south west of the shed. Now surely that was not due to the wind so either skittled off the roof by the cat or picked up and dropped by a bird.

Ok so this one really bugs me:

I'm on a computer, going through some photos. If I want to scroll forward, I click the forward button on the right. If I want to go backwards, I click the button on the left. The FAR LEFT. Now who thought that I should have to click on opposite sides of the screen to go forward and back (this isn't like the stopwatch reset button I posted earlier where the reset button needs to be far away from the start/stop button).

It would be much better if the forward and back buttons were closer to each other. Another silly design causing more posts in the "trivial things that annoy me" thread.

What computer is that?

All the computers I have used for quite a few years now have had the arrow keys (left and right arrows scroll through photos) in a block of four, so the only key between the two is the down arrow.

Or is that some particular software that uses custom buttons? If so, there is a good chance you can modify that in settings.

Indeed in Photos (in Windows) the mouse wheel allows you to go back and forth through your pictures

Oh no. Not more settings again!
On windows, when viewing photos and using the mouse, the arrows on the screen are to the far left and right of the screen (not talking about the cursor keys).

Puzzle game procrastinator!
I like playing a few of the puzzle games in Simon Tatham's (FREE AND AD-FREE!) portable puzzle collection (available HERE) on my laptop. (There is also an Android version on the Play Store, and a version in the Apple App Store.)

My favourites are Palisade and Towers.

The PC version of Towers involves pressing the number keys to select the number to appear in a selected grid cell. Unfortunately, the 'Q' key has been chosen to quit the game and that is directly below the '1' key... It wouldn't be a problem if the game prompted you to confirm quitting but it doesn't!

I keep missing the '1' key and accidentally pressing 'Q'. Did I mention that it doesn't save the game when quitting? :cursing:

Ah. Those arrows. Sorry, didn't think of those, I tend to use the arrow keys on the keyboard - probably because the ones you mention are far apart.

Cool - I didn't actually know the arrow KEYS worked in that app, thanks! (It's a bloody hideous application generally. But that's a small silver lining, at least ...)
What makes the design even worse, is the arrow buttons are invisible until you hover the mouse over them 🤦‍♀️

Closed roads, where they could have made provision to keep it open for pedestrians and cyclists, but they didn’t bother and sign a diversion only suitable for motorised vehicles.

The local authorities are getting better at that; recently the main road was resurfaced for about 3-4 km and they closed the road and allowed bikes to use it while they resurfaced the cycleway, then reopened the cycleway but kept the road closed for a couple of months more

One issue here is a tendency amongst road crews to scrape sections of top surface off the road, dig down, and refill it mostly but and leave the top surface off, so there's a nearly invisible trench about 4cm deep and up to a metre wide; because this wouldn't affect a car it isn't considered a priority.

When asking for directions, people who don't have the vaguest idea where the place is but insist on telling you, usually for ages, that they don't know, "but it might be near <add random road/shop/pub>"

Trying to be helpful is nice, but please just say "Sorry, I haven't a clue" and move on...
