Tour route suggestions for a seven year old

My son has decided he enjoys cycling and cycles to school with me 3 times a week (7k round trip) - he's also decided he likes camping (I've no idea where this has come from).

So at the end of April when the weather had improved enough for us and our 2 season sleeping backs we cycled from Ashbourne up the Tissington Trail through freezing rain and hail to the Royal Oak pub and camped there over night (waking to 1cm of snow covering the tent!). The following morning we cycled down the High Peak Trail to High Peak Junction near Cromford where my wife met us with the car. Despite the cold and wet we both had a good time.

So 3 days later he starts asking when we can do the next one... So now I'm looking for route suggestions; it needs to be reasonably flat, he can probably manage 25km per day average (the last one was 27km and 26km on each of the days), he's doing quiet roads with me on the way to and from school and he's developing his roadcraft, but I'd ideally like us to stay away from roads that have a speed limit over 30 since he's not that quick at the moment - finally it could do with being less than 2 hours from Manchester by train (or car if we really must).

So; does anyone have any suggestions? We've also wondered about a route which is out from a start point one day, camp overnight, do a loop from the campsite the following day and then return down the outbound route on a final day.

Along the North Wales coast. Easy to get the train too, offroad, flat (but watch the wind) and easy to get the train back from. Google NCN5 and on here, the Llandudno ride organised by Nickyboy.

Thanks Crackle and growingvegetables; those both look like good options - I'll start playing with some route plans and searching for campsites and regular food stops (essential for a hungry 7 year old!)

I've been told there's a long towpath ride near lincoln. Might be worth a look.

That could work, Lincoln too Woodhall Spa 17 miles and plenty of campsites at Woodhall, Woodhall to Horncastle and back the next day with plenty of places for lunch. Woodhall to Lincoln on the final day.

Only problem is the distance from Manchester.

If you do decide on this one wave as you go past my house as it overlooks the summer route through Bardney.

@screenman, I'll wave next time I'm up that way then!

Thanks for all the suggestions so far everyone; it appears that the North Wales coast has captured Ben's imagination so that looks like it may be our next tour - plenty of campsites and scope for cafe stops etc.

All of the others look pretty plausible too; Lincoln is actually only 3 hours by train (slightly more than Prestatyn but not too bad) - so many places so few free weekends!!

Plus a picture from our last trip; hopefully this one will have less snow...

Another wee bit worth looking at - the Ribble Valley? I was just looking at the map for something quite different - and the country lanes on the west side of the valley "looked interesting". Sorry, no guarantees on what it's like - never done it!

Something like Hellifield/Long Preston - Bolton-by-Bowland - Sawley - Grindleton - Waddington (- Clitheroe Station) - Ribchester - Wilpshire (station). If he's into Romans and their roads/forts? Looks mildly bumpy - tough first climb for a wee lad, then long downhill.

Lovely country? Says me - never having been there

Historical treat....

The Petwood Hotel in Woodhall Spa was the mess for 617 Squadron....
