So...having faffed about trying to find a winter cycling destination that doesnt involve a long flight, temporarily thinking Morocco might do the job but failing to find a companion...i have finally decided on a solo tour of cuba. Flights booked. Six weeks jan-feb. virgin charge NOTHING for my bike and budget of £20/day should cover food n accom.
I've checked out crazyguyonabike blogs but would be interested to hear from anyone who has cycled recently in cuba...meanwhile am polishing up my Spanish and Salsa dancing. Sooo exciting

Sounds fantastic Cindy  i would've loved to do the Morocco tour with you but work and mortgage payments dictate otherwise  im sure you'l have a great time cycling Cuba though

there are 2 types of peso in cuba the cuban peso and the tourist peso the tourist peso will buy you about 10 times less than a cuban peso and of course you'll be ripped off if your not very careful you can change your tourist peso for cuban in havana which you can then spend in fast food outlets etc though most want you to pay the advertised price in tourist pesos for obvious reasons a man i met paid the equivalent of 25US from the airport to the hotel the average national monthly wage is 15US

Yes I can, Yes I am, Yes I did...Repeat.
Should be an adventure...I.heard that real Cuban cigars are rolled on the inner thighs of cuban girls...

Not that is have any.interest in seeing that...I just thought is share my extensive and useful.knowledge of Cuba.

Good luck

I thought I offered to join you on the Morrocco Tour!
Now busy smelling my armpits:smile:

I am pretty sure you just said you might consider it? And i felt morocco was not a place i would want to tour alone so couldnt risk being let down by someone elses change of plans. Cuba on the other hand will be fine whether i am on my own or not and i can get down to enjoying the planning/thinking bit.
Im sure your arm pits are lovely )

Good luck - keep your belongings in sight at all times.

It's something I'd like to do in the future.

Wow, that's a swift change of plans!

Did you ever plan to ride in Morocco?

The Atlas Mountains are supposed to be pretty impressive.

I'd love to ride them next year.

Cuba is deceptively hilly and hot. Getting ripped off is a problem I have read about too. Still good music.

Would love to have come to Morocco, but still not sure leg injury is going to be better by Christmas...

Enjoy Cuba and will you be keeping a journal? reason I ask is that once we are back on the road we plan South America and Cuba as a possible next location... just have to sort the Cuba visa issues relating to entry into USA (assuming rumours I've heard are true...)

You will live it there, I went to Cuba a couple of years ago and will definitely go back. The scenery is absolutely fantastic, I always felt safe in Havana, even at 2am,(i wish i could say hd same about Dover  )surrounded by hundreds dancing and singing Cubans . There was no hassle, they are very friendly. Enjoy your trip
