Surely 102 days is eclipsed by the "Tommy Godwin" 365days record? Multiple people have attemtped it, and finally 2 americans beat it more than 70 years after Tommy's 1939 ride. I imagine there is a loooooong Cyclechat thread somewhere :P

EDIT: 75,000 miles or more.

Incredible stuff but he didn't run a single marathon in all that time so I dunno...

Yeah, Steve Abraham tried to break it riding around the UK at the same time a bloke in the States was attepting it too. From memory, the bloke in the States cycled over 200 miles a day but only gained about 200ft in elevation.

Anyway back to the TdF, nice day for watching the scenery (for us, not the riders!)

Didn't someone get the record riding in a national park over there ? Every day was laps in the almost deserted park roads. Still not easy but a world away from what Steve was doing?

yes the chap doing it same time as Steve A, Kurt Seovogal or something was being transported by a co driver (who he married later) in acanper van to find good weather, tail winds and the flat lands.

Then his record was broken by a lady with special needs after a bad smash with a car, Amanda Coker, who did the whole thing on a 7 mile flat loop around a nation park. Kajsa Tylen had previously set a female record riding all over the Uk and sweden and recording funny daily vidoe diarys with her mum and dog.

we digress....

rather dull stage stage today set to end in a sprint

Was out running yesterday and was thinking is the tdf the hardest corporate sporting event in the world?
No one runs 20 marathons or triathlons or plays 20 football matches back to back?!

Three in a week and they are tired!!

Also the pace must be a cut above other races particularly national races like TofB etc.

What do you think?

It’s generally accepted as the hardest sporting event in the World.

It isn’t the distance or elevation only, it is racing it. Giving literally 100% day in and day out. Collapsing at the end of tough stages with 2 weeks still to repeat.

These are all individual challenges, rather than competitive sporting events.

What other sporting competitions are as gruelling as a GT?

Hey, it's a sprint day with a futile breakaway

Cheek of it! I've been prepping the house for guests. I'm bloody knackered now. Probably more than Jasper! ^_^
