I’m really enjoying the ITV highlights this year. The geology and culture sections are interesting. Gary Imlach has to be one of the driest wits going. A different approach and contrast with the shear joy from Orla and the boys.

Yup, they've learned to do that stuff very well over the years. The geology bits have been fun; the first one this year was perhaps THE best filler I've ever seen in sports coverage!
I want to watch Imlach AND Orla's gang; perhaps too much of either would be a bad thing :P

Completely agree! I‘ve been watching ITV highlights then skipping to the Breakaway bit of GCN coverage for reaction.

Today's stage ...looks a tough one, aren't they all.
Thibaut Pinot ...said yday that #12 is "a very beautiful stage, very tough, tougher than you'd think, so we're going to try & go on the attack."
"We'll take anything that comes our way", when asked does he prefer 12, 13 or 14-15.
"I'm in good shape", he added.
That means he's of my betting list 😁
Going for a late attack by Mohoric...again !

Oh ye of little faith. If I was a betting man I'd be putting my house on Thibaut.

So it's a good job I'm not.

Breakaway today is my prediction. GC boys keeping their powder dry for Grand Colombier tmr.

Lets hope one or three of the Brit pack get into the break.

I've a feeling someone like Skjelmose would be in for a decent crack today at a the breakaway. A lot of climbing will favour a smaller guy. He's an hour down on GC so none of the big teams will try and stop him going up the road.

Jacobsen has been dangling off the back a lot for a while, so not a great surprise. A shame tho, cos I like him.

Although it's not the most well-known area today, some of the names on the menu are familiar. Here's an extract from my claims submission to l'Ordre des Cols Durs in 1988:

Handwritten in fountain pen. Couldn't do it now.

In the absence of the sort of detailed records everyone takes for granted these days, my old OCD lists have often helped to flesh out some of the detail of my old rides.

Today is setting up to be another mental day for the peloton. The beaujolais region is lovely for riding. From memories the descent down from Avenas gets a bit ropey surface wise (unless they've redone it since last summer)
