Alexander Vinokourov in L'Equipe:

"We want to give Mark Cavendish the possibility to ride for one more year, but it's up to him. We'd love to see him ride in 2024, start his 15th Tour de France and win his 35th stage."

That would be awesome and I would love to see it. Funnily enough, Cav seems to be the only one not too bothered about holding the outright record! Maybe the Tour organisers next year will start the route with six flat stages and then Cav can retire if he wins one and doesn't have to haul his body over the mountains again.

As rubbish a way it was for him to end yesterday and having read his books, I'm not quite sure he's the type of bloke to go back on a decision once he's made it.

I'm just thankful for all the joy he has given us

Dare I say it...I'm not that bothered either way.Hes the fastest sprinter of all time, who's had a fantastic career.Go out at the top. There both on 34 shared record you can't be disappointed at that.
I'm more interested in today's stage now I've slept on it.

Aye, there's no guarantee he would win even if he did ride next year. Last thing we want is him trying to hang in to beat the record but as Cav said himself, he's not that bothered about it. I was on a bit of a downer yesterday but I think the Puy de Dome will re-invigorate me

With Cav it is not just the TdF that he would have to do but all the winter training and getting race fit and getting back up to the speed and power that he currently has
All that takes the whole winter and spring and has to include a lot of racing

So - basically he would have to commit to a whole extra season - or at least half of it

Great that his team are willing to support him if he decides to go for it but in a way this may be a better way to go - going out after doing one extra and not getting the extra win would be a real anti-climax
people need to remember that the sprinters that are saying they would love him t win one more - they are sprinters - what they mean is they would love him to win one more as long as they are not behind him
Every spinter in the pack will still be trying to beat him so he would have to still be faster than them - sprinters don't do freebies once they see the line - nor would Cav want any favours

Agreed...
...so, breakaway? Vingo? Pog? Someone else?

Would love to see a break, preferably with Woods and Ciccone, but am living in dreamland. Whatever happens should be good and looking forward to it.
50/50....depends if they want to let it go,or more to my liking they decide they want a battle on the final climb 😁

I met her once. Ok that's not quite true. I saw her once. Ok that's not quite true.

I was at the Olympic velodrome with my wife. Someone walked past with kids in tow. My wife said "That was Mrs Cav.", and I replied "What? Who? Where?"

I stood next to her with their then toddler daughter in the prawn sandwich enclosure at the final stage of the 2013 tour of Britain. She seemed nice. Also, Cath Wiggins likes a drink.

My wife, our dog and I were thinking of going for a picnic at Lac de Vassivière today. Glad we didn't now as I had no idea the tour was passing by today. I knew there was a Limoges - Puy Dome stage but I didn't know it was today nor it's exact route. Another day perhaps and I can watch the tour on the tele. Puy Dome will be some finish. Looking forward to seeing that.
