Personally I want to take advantage of the frame design / customisation options offered by Enigma if I do indeed proceed

The Spa Elan frameset is a good option at £1100 if happy with stock design

I've seen the Spa ones myself at the weekend and they are definitely worth a look, they looked really nice.
I'd come up and look at them if you are able to, the photos on the website dont do them justice. I think you can take them out on a long ride as well.
I know someone who won one in a competition and he says its a fantastic bike.
That's what I did last week - let them know a few days in advance that I would like a test ride and the size required. They didn't want any form of security deposit and let me take one of the Elans out for a ride unaccompanied and wherever I wanted to go. Afterwards, I was offered the use of one for the morning while waiting for my train home (Starbeck station is just round the corner), but I had just paid the deposit for my build!

Strange sale......all those px titanium framests were 999 for the last month or so

Now they add a 20% at checkout sale, but all framesets are listed at 1199

The price of the framesets is £799.99 when you add to basket, £999.99 less 20%

Not that I'm buying one  Especially as Yodel are their cheaper delivery option (£15 vs £40 for DHL) (that said I think Yodel might have delivered a bike I bought a couple of years back without mishap, I might have got lucky)

Having had the odd custom frame in Ti and steel I'd recommend really nailing down your requirements both in sizing(frame/fit and tube selection) and especially in brazeons and fittings. I could actually buy off the peg now as my custom requirements were:-
long head tube
disc brakes
big tyre clearances
adjustable dropouts or EBB(eccentric bottom bracket)
rack, guard and 3 bottle, mounts
less racy and more relaxed angles
strong enough for touring and light off roading

There you go I've just described the gravel grinder phenom or, as I prefer to think of it, a modern general purpose bike.

One thing worth noting is that though your frame choices are fixed once built your fork choices are not. For example if you have a frame that, with a 410mm AtoC fork gives you relaxed angles of 72/72 for touring then switching to a shorter fork(20mm per degree) will steepen those angles for sportier road riding. Bottom bracket height varies as well but not by as much, BB height varies with tyre choice anyway. The reach is also lengthened as angles steepen and vice versa this is because you would move your saddle to keep your saddle to BB distance and angle consistent.

f this doesn't make sense then just ask Enigma and they'll be able to explain your options around aftermarket customisation like above. Swapping out forks is very simple.
