Out for a mini shop. Since we needed loo rolls I took the trike because of the luggage box. A fine sunny day.

I pumped up the tyres. I reset the Garmin and then wondered where the bracket for it had gone. Then I remembered that the one on the Brompton had broken and I’d pinched the one from the trike. Must remember to order another one. I looped the lanyard over the headrest so it had room to swing about without hitting anything. I couldn’t see it while riding but it would still collect ride data.

Leaving it on the big chainring I went out through the gate. On to the road and soon on Swanlow lane heading for the uphill traffic lights. Getting ready to turn right the lights changed to red so I came to a halt at the cyclists’ Advanced Stop Line. A novelty this, enjoying cyclists’ privileges while keeping my feet up ready to go.

The lights changed, no oncoming traffic so off I went. A slight hump to start with then up through the gears as it levelled, then downhill to the left looking forward to a good freewheel to the town centre. As I started to pick up speed a rubbish lorry pulled out from a road on the left, and almost immediately stopped. Traffic began to accumulate, so I just had to wait for a gap. No pedalling though, just let the brakes off and roll. Straight through a mini roundabout with no traffic and then as I approached a traffic light which was starting to cause a queue I nipped up on to the adjacent cycle path and went right. Still no traffic here so I crossed the road on to the opposite side and followed the pavement path into a supermarket access.

Loads of people about, mostly going in my direction and oblivious to my presence. I crept along, waiting while someone took a baby out of a pushchair, then kept on going, heading for somewhere to lock up. At a prime spot two women were gasbagging away totally unaware of anything else. I waited, hoping they’d move but they didn’t. I waited for a gap in the foot traffic then did a loop to the left so I could get into a space that was originally on my right. There was a car parking space but someone had put a barrier along it so you couldn’t get a car in. Anyway, I could see a bike already locked to the fence alongside it so I followed suit. I locked the trike to the fence rail, stopped the Garmin and put it in my pocket then went in to do some shopping.

Back out again, I loaded up the box, which held all my purchases comfortably. I restarted the Garmin, hung it on the headrest again, unlocked and set off across the car park. People talk about fearing that you are are invisible on a recumbent, and the trike is certainly lower and more reclined than my two wheeled one, but still not unusually low for a trike. Judging by the expression on many drivers’ faces it’s pretty visible. Still, car parks are where most cars collect their dents and dings due to all the built in blind spots on cars so it pays to be careful.

Out of the car park, left at a mini roundabout, right at the next one then bouncing over the speed humps on Dingle lane. Across the pavement at the end of Dingle Lane, then a zig zag route through an estate and out on to Townfields Road. Over the top, left at the lights, down a dip then turn off, up a short climb, freewheel through the lanes and home.

I pumped up the tyres and oiled my chain

Anyway, my tiny ride was 500 metres up the road to the lake and see the local wildlife. I used the e-bike and the best thing was that I didn't bother changing into bike clothes. Met a stranger, chatted for 15 minutes then went for a ride around a few blocks; ended up doing 4km in lovely weather.

Maybe it's the exciting life I lead, but I seem to get through a lot of loo rolls.

They always seem to need buying.

That does sound lovely.

I did an early morning tiny ride today, in shorts and T-shirt fora the first time this year. Just under 8km on my local loop. Birdsong and next to no traffic, it was lovely. I might not have done much bicycling over the last couple of months, but regular swimming seems to be making what passes for hills either shorter or flatter I’m not sure which.

This morning, a maybe 3/4 mile shakedown ride in my Ribble Sportive.

It doesnt get used anymore, I can't , so it's languishing in the shed for the most part.
Grandaughter, nearly 18 has hinted a desire to buy a roadbike. I've offered mine, compact frame for her to try out, I'm sure we can make it work somehow, see if she likes roadbiking.

£1400 ish new, what's a over 10 year old carbon bike worth ? £250 ?
If she can make ot work size wise and likes it, she can keep it.

After months of being scared to ride and a number of sessions with a psychotherapist I finally went for a proper ride this morning. Not only that but I rode the stretch of cycle path where I was knocked off. That's the first time since November 2021. Yesterday was the first time I'd even walked there. This morning there was a cyclist coming toward me on that stretch and I nearly stopped to let him pass but I didn't and he was a normal considerate rider and I had no need to be scared of him.

This feels like a huge milestone. Hopefully I'll be back out again tomorrow and can start to get back to doing the things I used to enjoy.

I’ve no idea on the value, but what a lovely idea.

I've not had many tiny rides recently and missed them.

Today I whizzed down to the local museum for a takeaway drink with Ms AU and our son. The Castle Gardens were inspiring and empty.

Back home past the Weir and Long Run Meadow.

Two miles of heaven.
It’s very definitely quality over quantity! Gorgeous photo.

That’s a brilliant achievement, you should definitely be very proud. Not an easy journey by any means. That’s a huge result for a tiny rides thread :notworthy::bicycle::cheers:

A longer ride this morning on a different route. No sun and cooler this morning but spotted some orchids that I missed yesterday and the skylarks were singing. That's one of the things I've missed by not getting out so much. Back down the riverside where the tide was a long way out, lots and lots of mudflats for birds to poke about in, though the waders aren't around at this time of year.

The longest ride for months and months - a bit less than 10 miles. I can feel in in my legs now!

My aim is to get back to doing rides that are too long for this thread

Completed a few short 5 mile rides into town on the Brompton over the last few weeks, but nursing a shoulder injury that won’t go away, I haven’t done much else. Yesterday, my beautiful wife had some friends over for the afternoon so I thought I’d make myself scarce, fire up the neglected emtb and take that into town for a coffee. Decided to go the long way round via Coate village, but that ended up taking the Gypsy Patch bridleway down to the back end of town, watching the vintage planes take off from the grass runway on the way. Good weather and enjoying the emtb once again, I headed out to Sleight and decided to stop for a coffee at the golf range. That turned into a bacon roll, so I trundled off down the lanes for a bit and ended up on another track heading out to Potterne. From there, still wanting coffee, I pootled along to Worton village where everything was of course shut. Pointed the bike back towards town but remembered a Facebook post about this little chocolate workshop on a farm that does lovely gelato, so set the bike nav to Poulshot and found the farm. It wasn’t gelato at all, just whippy ice cream but it was nice enough. Still no coffee. Headed back towards Rowde and up the Caen Hill canal flight into Devizes. Stopped in at Black Dog coffee and sat by the wharf for a bit enjoying the sun. Fired up the emtb again and headed up Quakers Walk towards home, but as it was still so lovely out, rode back up the steep rocky path back onto the Gyspy Patch bridleway and up on to Monument Hill. Followed a group of roadies into Etchilampton village and swung left and up the really steep hill into Coate and then finally back home. So what was supposed to be a short 5 mile trip ended up at 28 miles and a lovely afternoon indeed.

That sounds lovely @Justinitus , I hope your shoulder heals soon. Perfect choice of hills for an emtb, the only one you missed is Conscience Lane out to the Rowdey Cow! I love that little airfield.
I will be bikeless for a few days as heading down west to see family. I have put a saxophone up for sale though with a view to getting either a folder to take with me, or a bike that can stay down there for whenever I visit.
