Afre you always going to have to manually move the chain for the other gear ratios? Or is there some sort of mod you can do? Seems a bit of a faff that might spoil a nice ride.

It's a conundrum. Tantalisingly, it doesn't have a front derailleur post, but it has this mysterious protuberance on the frame.
Sinner Trike 11.jpg

Perhaps it's the manufacturer's fitting point for their own bolt on front derailleur post. It's in the wrong place, and slopes the wrong way, for an easy fix. It looks more like the base for a holder for a computer or other gadgets. I had vaguely considered getting a frame builder to look at it. Possibly a piece of square tube which clamps over that stub, with a length of the right sized tubing brazed to it so that it sloped backwards at the correct angle to hold a front derailleur. A cycle savvy brazer might have suitable jigs to get the angles right. It might be a spare part available from Sinner but it's hard to find anything out online. Perhaps someone has just the thing lying around in their shed.

My Linear came with a triple chainset but no derailleur post but the mounting block for the bottom bracket had a threaded hole and a circular locating cut out so it was easy to make one from a seat pin cut to size and bolted on. Everything was in the right place to start with.

Judging from the few pictures I've seen of other Sinner trikes they don't have front derailleurs either. When I first got mine it didn't have a chain tensioner. The chain length was set for the big ring, and was very slack if used on the small ring. So I fitted a Shimano chain tensioner, designed to work with hub gears which have double chainrings at the front.
The greasy finger front change works for now but obviously isn't as convenient as just pushing a lever. A project for a future date, maybe.

A quick spin into town yesterday for a cuppa with Ms AU. It felt great to be out together on the bikes even if it was only for 2 miles.

We had lights on but a uniformed police officer looked in our direction and then stepped off the pavement directly in front of us. I guess he was looking out for cars and missed two bundled up people on bikes.

Eight and a half miles this morning, I'm on a roll! It looked as if it would rain, and it did, but noticeably warmer than yesterday. I sheltered briefly under the Prince of Wales bridge, or is it now the King Charles bridge? Either way, it was good to get out again, even for a small ride.

Fifty mile an hour gusts tomorrow, I guess I'll it a miss.

I cycled to the garden that I'm helping my friends look after. Started tidying some of the beds, clearing the dead runner beans and corn and lots of weeds. I was busy tidying the greenhouse when we had a couple of showers and had to avoid the parts where the roof leaks. Still loads to do but at least it looks like progress when there's a load of stuff to go into the bin.

Tiny ride today.

Out on the Linear on a windy ride to the library. Out the back gate, stopped to align the mirrors and set off with a following breeze. Passing a school, a youthful voice called out, “Oy! Like your bike!” I waved regally, accepting it as my due, and wended my way to Swanlow Lane. Turning right at the uphill lights and flying over a small uphill then downhill towards the river. I made good, if wary, progress between rows of parked cars, hopped across a pavement then did battle with speed humps along Dingle Lane. Just before a set of traffic lights at the A54 I joined a queue of traffic, then left along the path through a corner of the shopping precinct. Young hooligan that I am, I always expect security to boom out a message of “no cycling!” on the speakers when I nip through here, as the bike isn’t exactly invisible. On to a service road, then parked at a bike stand outside the library. Out with the lock and chain as a sprinkle of wind driven rain appeared. I made good time getting here. Getting back, going uphill into the wind and maybe being rained on, I anticipated paying for the pleasure of it.

Meanwhile, even cycling icons such as myself like to read, so I dived into the book lined nirvana of the library.

On coming out, the rain had stopped. I unchained the beast and carefully pedalled across the pavement to a nearby road. I turned left into the traffic then right into a filter lane to a supermarket car park. On the other side I turned on to a short path between bollards and came out on to a series of terraced streets which zig zagged up the hill to Swanlow Lane. Although the wind was in my face I had no difficulty rolling along uphill. I wasn’t aware of my heart rate increasing much, certainly I wasn’t short of breath. Perhaps, just happens that despite not cycling much this year, I’m still fitter than I thought. As the road levelled, I went up the gears. Despite the gusty wind I got up a satisfactory amount of speed down Swanlow Lane, through the traffic lights, to my turn off. Turning right here I got the full blast of the wind in my face as I climbed a short sharp hill. I just changed down and plodded along then pedalled steadily downhill. Eventually I came to my back gate.

A tiny ride, with plenty of uphill and headwind to keep me occupied. Nevertheless, a good ride.

My tiny rides all seem to revolve around visits to the garden I'm helping with. Spent the morning there and got another couple of beds cleared ready for planting. Watered the pea and bean seeds that I planted the other day - no signs of life yet, hopefully under the soil all sorts of magic is happening. Had company from a very vocal Dunnock and there was a Great tit about somewhere but I couldn't spot it.

Oh, and harvested a liitle head of Lamb's lettuce to go in my lunchtime sandwich.

Due to illness then an injury I haven't been out on a bike for nearly three years. I had the day off Tuesday and thought it's now or never. Went for a gentle 5.5 mile tiny ride along the water front. Legs were a bit wobbly when I got back. But it felt good to be back in the saddles. Just need to keep it up and get fitter.

It looks like I'll be getting company on my tiny rides. Mr Hebe's physio has told him to cut back on his runs for a while and introduce a couple of short, flat bike rides every week instead. 😀

That sounds like me!
