If you mean the "slime" ones, I have tried them, and just given up after Friday. They certainly seemed to help, but when I did get a puncture that wouldn't self-seal, they are pretty well unrepairable - I couldn't get a patch to stick at all.

Yes - innertubes with "slime" inside. So they are available in the UK...

Did you get home after the puncture? That's the most important thing to me. Deal with the problem later and, if necessary, replace the innertube. I've only had to replace two in 7 years and they're not expensive - I think the last one I got was 6 euros + VAT (but like everything else, I expect they've gone up in price recently).

I really don't know if they are patchable - but I wouldn't give up with the principle of them. Just get a new innertube occasionally,

IIRC @ColinJ once spent 40 minutes at the roadside repairing a puncture.... 40 minutes! Well, if that had been me, I'd have chucked the bike in a ditch, given up cycling and taken up knitting or watching telly (something less stressful anyway).

Yes, I got home - or rather to work, since it was on my morning commute. I always carry a spare inner tube, no matter how puncture proof my setup is supposed to be.

About as long as that!

It was the worst combination of rim and tyre bead that I've ever had. It was a long time ago and I have never had anything like that problem since, thank heavens.

I can get most of my tyres on and off with bare hands now.

The folk I knew (not many admittedly) running the slime tubes have changed to tubeless.

Well, at least you considered the possibility of slime tubes.

They've been completely reliable for me and they require no work at all. If you're going tubeless you will have to check the sealant level every so often - but I'm sure you know that.

Oh ... @FrothNinja .. I forgot to mention that on Thursday I'm getting an upgrade to my Sigma handlebar computer on my road bike that will calculate total elevation over the course of a ride. God knows how it works as I don't think it uses GPS ... but if it does work, then I may well join your Simplified Loony Climbing Challenge (but with a perhaps laughably low daily target..)
