I remember when I was a Postie that sometimes people got their mail back not only on the same day as posting but before they had even got back home from wherever they posted it. They had forgotten the stamp but had the return address on the back so easiest thing was just fire it straight back on second delivery of the day. Probably against the rules but sometimes in those days we bent then a bit as a favour.Found myself listening to 'Return to sender' the other day, which begins
I gave a letter to the postman
He put it in his sack
Bright and early next morning
He brought my letter back
And I thought, you have to say, that's an excellent postal service. You'd be lucky to get it back within a week these days, even without the current problems.
A large tip expected at Christmas of course.
