Suicide on the train line causing train cancellations on West Coast line between Wigan and Preston. I don't know how I should be thinking about this.

I'm sorry for the suicide victim but also think it's hard on the driver who sees the victim about to be hit bit can't do anything. Apparently it often causes them so much mental damage they can't work on the trains again.

Then there's the utterly minor inconvenience of sitting for 2 hours on the station. For the. Next train home.

Then there's the fact I've been through this twice before, in one week about a month ago! What is it about the area between Wigan and Preston? Apparently it's a bit too common in that area.

And finally, why can't we as the 6th biggest economy in the world give better mental health services so these suicides are much less common?

As you can tell I'm kind of annoyed and sympathetic with everyone concerned. Hence my question about how to behave and think about this. What is the correct human response?

Not just the driver but there are those who have to pick up the bits. I once worked with a guy who was an assistant undertaker and they had to collect the remains in baskets sometimes. The police who were in attendance could not stomach the job but somebody has to do it.

Growing up is highly overrated in my opinion.

As previously posted a few years ago - one of my favourite pieces of graffiti

My great uncle when just a lowly sarge in the police was tasked with helping his BTP colleagues walk the line picking body parts after a high speed collision. Apparently they had to walk a couple of miles to get it all!

The senior officers in charge deemed it was too distress job for ordinary officers so they got the sergeants to do it, BTP just didn't have enough of them available so the called on local constabulary to assist.

Apparently it affected him but he was able to carry on serving and rose high up the hierarchy, even being talked up as suitable for the top job before he retired early with bad health.

Gambling adverts and good adverts that make the slop in your ready meal look better than you could ever achieve at home. Seriously Lidl, your Xmas offerings will never look like that outside of the advert. Do not lie, they're not what the public will get and how do you get away with those lies?

Seriously if it's a lying food advert it's a gambling one that makes it look like an aspirational activity that healthy and very social. Getting into debt and gambling addiction is not aspirational so please show the guy who topped himself because he couldn't give up gambling because he kept getting emails offering him credit and trying to draw him back. I'm sure the truth would be a good idea and stop your lying adverts!

The gambling ones are shocking; emphasising all the fabulous ‘tools’ they provide to help you control your addiction.

My Dad was RAF ground crew in WW2 - Armourer on Stirlings then Halifaxes

Part of their job was to get all the bangy stuff out of the plane after it landed after a mission - including bombs and bullets - before anyone else goes near the aircraft .Clearly crew left first whether OKor wounded but crew that were clearly dead were left until the plane was declared safe

This meant he would be the first into the rear gunners turret to get the remaining ammunition
He mentioned once, after a drink or two, that turrett could be a bit difficult if the gunner had been hit by cannon fire from a fighter - never mentioned it again
