Why does Jess Phillips have a Birmingham accent? Her parents were company directors, she grew up in a leafy suburb and she went to a grammar school.

Have you heard her parents speak? (I haven't - but I'm pretty sure having a Brummie accent won't stop you becoming a "company director" ).

Grammar schools are open to kids with all sorts of oikish accents.

Do those people who shout political messages or hold placards in view during live news broadcasts realise just how irritating they are?

Er. I think they are trying to make a point/get a message across.
Why don't folks hold demos in their bedrooms? Is of course the burning question of the day.

I get that, but all you can hear is something being shouted while not being able to make out what it is, or see part of a message on the placard with most of it being hidden behind the presenter's head. All of which distracts from the actual information being put across or the interview being carried out.

At least they are not gluing themselves to the presenter!

How dare they!

[I really hope Jenks is being ironic. Please?]

Eating at a chain restaurant last night I noticed that although the food options were dutifully allocated a calorie rating the beers and ciders were unmarked. This seems a major omission as beer is known to be calorific, hence the expression 'beer belly'.

Is there a reason for this?
