My first instinct watching live was forward but on replay I couldn't be sure - and the referee was well up with play TBF, so I told myself I was being partisan and agreed I would shut up

By "luck" do you mean France having an attack the butterfingers? I suppose you could call the opposition screwing up "luck", the problem is that but if you did then you'd have to account your own screwups as bad luck. If that's the case England have had some terrible luck recently
I was a bit disappointed with France because I wanted to see some amazing rugby from them and they weren't in top form today. But the match was really good entertainment. I especially liked the "Wacky Races" passage where one side would attack, spill the ball, turn it over to the other side who would counter-attack, spill the ball ... Not great rugby, but great entertainment
As to the forward passes, there were tons from both sides. There always are. The officials use an interpretation that is not the same as the law as written ("towards the opposition's dead ball line"). They add, tacitly, "in the passer's moving frame of reference". It's just how it us. We can just hope that they do so consistently.

Agree with all of this, especially the last sentence as it's inconsistency which really frustrates the fans. If it wasn't there though what would we get narked about?
England were unlucky against NZ in the autumn when the penalty hit the post after a pretty good display, on another day that could have gone over and the world would have been a different place. They should have beaten Oz and maybe even SA based on the 70 minutes but blew both of those by poor decisions. Yesterday with a wet ball luck has a part in it. Anyway, great to have some unexpected results and the championship alive.

Wales dropping to 12th in the rankings is a new low. Garland has to go after the 6 Nations, and I'd bin the lot of those in charge of the WRU which is a shambles.

I'll be rooting for Scotland this afternoon. Not because I'm pro Scots or anti Irish but because it would give us 4 sides on P2 W1 L1 including both favourites, Fr and Irl

You're not wrong and to be honest I can't think of anyone right now. The last time they tried anything experimental (Pivac) it only worked briefly.

Is there an ex player, or soon-to-be-ex player (Not a clue why Dan Biggar comes to mind, but he's a really combative guy, for sure, and he's starting to branch out into different coaching fields) who can step up and be backed for a couple of seasons?

Playing England is always hard but I still think France is a better and more consistent team. A few handling errors cost us the game .

An obvious choice in terms of intelligence, rugby experience and respect from the players would be Sam Warburton, but I suspect he is earning a lot of money from the media and could do without the hassle of a poisoned chalice.
I have a few friends who have been season ticket holders at the Blues for more than 30 years but have all given them up in the past two years because of the poor quality rugby at regional level and the crazy fixture list when they sometimes can go more than a month without a home fixture, never have a Saturday 3.00 pm kick-off and even have Saturday evening 7.30 kick-offs. The whole regional and league structures are a shambles. This mess has been coming for a long time.
As far as young players are concerned the WRU doesn't seem interested and you can see the results of this in local parks on a weekend when the number of football teams playing far outnumbers the rugby teams.
I cannot see one Welsh player being selected for the Lions tour.
Having just thoroughly depressed myself I doubt that even watching two decent teams playing at the moment will cheer me up.
