Good morning, the mist is burning off and I must get my lazy arse out the door and go for a run. Blood test yesterday and speak with the consultant today. I always get a bit " twitchy " and can't settle in the few days leading up to seeing him, though I'm pretty sure that all is well.
I've been de - stressing by working on this years nest box project. With the aid of my trusty " spudger " I have removed the casing from a compact internal security camera and have mounted the now much more compact internals into the top of the nest box complete with a USB power feed. It's a new nest box and I'll put it in the same location. Hopefully will get some blue tits investigating and nesting 🤞

I was put on Statins a year ago, my cholesterol was marginal my blood pressure was up a little and I was a little overweight.
I have lost 11 kilos, and made a few changes to my life style and everything was looking good.
But,
There is now an algorithm called Qrisk that calculates the risk taking in your height, weight, blood pressure, age, ethnicity and cholesterol and gives a score. I believe if that score is over 10.5 statins will be prescribed.

hmm - seems like mine is 13.5 - which would explain why they have prescribed statins
thanks - useful to know the parameters

Been playing with the parameters

if I loose 10kg ten it will make no difference to the calculation
if I manage to drop my blood pressure (based on home measurement) then that would drop it but still over the limit

looking at my test results on the NHS app - it doesn;t even seem like there has been a cholesterol test done recently

so I can;t input that to see the result

anyway - interesting

Just about every man in the village has been prescribed statins and all of them felt so ill that I don't know of any who are still taking them.

Weird - that can;t be normal - if they affected people that badly they would be changed or something

Wonder what the GP thinks about it?
This - and other unanswerable questions - are exactly what the internet is for - finding ways to create new theories with little evidence!

sorry

I have had no side effects in the year since being prescribed statins, and since going on them the amount of people who I have met that are on them is quite amazing.
It would appear to me that this is a preventative measure by the government/NHS to try to slow hospital admissions for strokes and heart attacks.

MrsP has decided that we are going to a local open farm in Mill Hill, Beaumonts farm is a working farm, and apparently has a very nice cafe.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.

Unfortunately for those who have been prescribed the wrong ones, the effects can be dire and can last the rest of their lives

Statins.
Some 25 years ago I had no idea what high cholesterol meant. After a blood test, the Doctor said "your cholesterol is 8.9" I asked her what that meant and she said "you are a heart attack waiting to happen" and wanted to put me on statins.
I declined and am still here. And if it wasn't for this sh*t covid I would still be cycling.

BTW
It's green and blue bin day. I hadn't realised the green had started for the spring.
