That's about the same for the three of us, £57 a month.

Ours is on rateable value, I imagine your the same? There doesn't seem to be any consistency to pricing across the UK. I think a water meter would make a difference compared to others in our region but not from region to region. We have a friend, single, who lives three doors down. He is metered and pays 25% less.

As a general rule of thumb, if there are more bedrooms than there are people living in the house, water Bills will be cheaper if you are metered.
I went metered 4 years back. Our bill went from £49 per month, down to £16. It's now at £18, and due to rise by 19.5% in April.

There is no consistency, since, each Water Authority is a separate Company. However, even before privatisation, there was no uniformity as far as I recall. A similar situation exists with Council Tax, which varies widely from Local Authority to Local Authority, and, contrary to what you might expect, deprived areas are often more expensive (Council Tax wise) than more affluent areas.

Is that with a meter? We are paying £22/month with two “free” months per year, so, £220/year. That is for water and sewerage, Northumbrian Water, on a meter.

Crikey!

We have just plugged in realistic water use data on the United Utilities website re having a water meter installed and our new bill of £471 reduces to £221!

We shall be applying for a water meter tomorrow!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
