Well - it looks like the people (OK men ) doing the driveway and pation are nearly finished
The boss is saying it will finish on Friday but a lot of the bits left only require one or two people

AKA - he wants to get started on anoteh job

anyway - it is basically just the grout, cleaning the flags, put cleaning chemicals down to clean them properly and that's abou tit

Massive difference to the people who did it a few years before the pandemic - you can see the higher quality and precision
I just hope it last longer - basically until we snuff it
the last bloke clearly cocked it up by being cheap and stuff - so we had a lot of cracked flags and wobbly flags after only a few years!!!

anyway - hopefully I will be able to get my bike out and runing by the end of today

which will help a lot as I can;t drive until March!!

Been there.
I used a nice honest guy to do my patio but tbf he was a general builder so like you, within years the flags were rocking etc.
Last year I paid a specialist to redo it. Twice the price but the difference is amazing

The previous guy claimed to be a specialist
I used him because he was a parent at the school where I was a teacher and all the people I knew at the school said he was good
and I knew his kids were some of the good kids at the school

At the time I believed he had taken on a large contract with Warrington Counsel and bittne outt too much
and so left a cuple of works to do the job here and not had time to supervise it properly

but he has taken every shortcut available and cocked up a lot of stuff - that the current bloke is quit e happy to point out
but on the other hand - if they were not there to point out then he wouldn;t be able to

so overall I have been convinced that any lingering thoughts that he was just a victim of his own ambition and did try to do it right - have been killed off
if not then he would have noticed and fixed things when they were doing it - because he did come round most evening to see how things were going

I’ve had 3 bars of chocolate and a family size bag of crisps. The binge eating has taken over yet again.

I feel your pain. This has been my life since I stopped work . ☹️

At least you are doing regular exercise to counter act it. 😀😀

Surprising how quick your (my) IT skills (such as they were) slip once retired.
I havnt sat in front of a PC in around 5 months, we need to print off some documents but they're all on tablets or mobile phone. Brought a USB adaptor but seems either one of the two laser printers I have is long since not supported or the app won't work.
Set up our grandaughters laptop...got that going but not without a bit of headscratching, setting up etc etc. Soon got rusty...(plus this is Windows 11, not what I had at work so slightly different procedures, routes, icons )

Afternoon all .
What a miserable day it is today, cold and wet.
Not up to much, drove my daughter to the station then booked a table for lunch for the three of us and her grandparents on Friday as it’s her birthday. ( she’s 29, how did that happen ? 😂)
I’ve also paid a few bills, rejoined Cycling uk and also joined the class association of the boat I want to buy.
Now settling down with a coffee watching an old Endeavour on tv.

Reminds me of the time we employed a carpenter that knew how to fit kitchens - in fact he was recommended as such.

He was abso-frigging-lutely 100% useless. Drilled through one door front, didn't tell us and filled it with filler. Most distraught when we spotted it and insisted he buy another and change it.

Then, he cocked up not one, but two, 4m long worktops and wanted us to buy a third as he "wasn't making much money out of the job".

Well, that one didn't fly, he got two choices. Buy a third worktop, finish the job and then get paid or he could bugger off right there & then and get not a penny off of us. He stayed and finished the job but only got paid after he came back twice to rectify other problems we noticed after he had 'finished'.

Moral of the story: carpenters and kitchen fitters are two different animals.

Anyway - good news

Not been on my bike for months - for several reasons
but having been told I can;t ride until March I could do with using it at least for shopping - and probably taking the long route there and back!

but the last week or so the landscapers have had the new shed rather blocked off either by flags (etc) which can;t be walked on yet - or other stuff
ANyway - today they are just doing bits so I could get to the shed
One of them helped me shift some of the stuff and I got the bike out
I checked it all over and the only problem was a flat rear tyre
pumped it up and tried out a quick 5 mile run around the local paths and roads

all working - except the tyre was flat again when I got back
but that is easily sorted!

So tomorrow I will get the panniers out and think of some urgent shopping we need!!!
