still here numbnuts , shock us all .. what did you say anyway ?

For saying it as it is and not like the BBC, GM News and Co like you to think it is.
Sometimes one has to evaluate the reason to be here at CC and after 17 years
maybe, just maybe it's time to keep my big mouth shut and let everybody get on with it.

they also said it was a "mini stroke" so I'm not allowed to drive - legally - for 1 month

(they have not mentioned cycling - and I didn;t ask
SWMBO seems to think I should stay off roads on my bike for a week or so
her sister thinks I am mad even considering cycling

I am with the ladies on this one.

Unless your Consultant says otherwise, my view is that you stay off your bike for at least as long as you legally cannot drive.

The potential consequences of another mini-stroke whilst cycling don't bear thinking about.

Hope you don't mind me posting this.

In other news - I was back at the hospital yesterday for some tests

MRI was freaky - lots fo noises and stuff - sounded like being in the middle of some sort of Star Wars combat game

and no idea of how long it had to go or how much time had passed!!

anyway - came back just fine
apparently my brain look perfectly normal

(although there does seem to be an opinion that this shows their machine needs adjusting!!)

so no lasting damage - apparently!!!!

they wanted to do another test but they had no slots available so I have to go back today
which is a pain as they also said it was a "mini stroke" so I'm not allowed to drive - legally - for 1 month

anyway - so - I have to go back this morning
no-one is available to give us a lift so it'll have to be a taxi - about 15 quid each way!!!

but at least I'm not going mad or anything!

This all sounds very positive. The question of cycling is difficult. The last time I had an epileptic episode my licence was suspended for 12 months. I commuted by bike and train - up to 36 miles per day cycling depending on which site I was working from. There was never a question of not cycling.

I agree with SWMBO and Spokey, four weeks off the bike seems prudent.

I’m a bit claustrophobic so kept my eyes shut the entire time. Not sure if I could have another with the metal plate in my collar bone. I’ve heard conflicting advice. Internet says you can, yet a staff nurse I know locally says they won’t??

When I was scanned after my RTC everything metal was cut off me. I couldn't be moved so cutting off zips, HR strap, etc. was the only option.

stay off the bike too just to be extra careful , you would feel a right tool if you had a slip on the bike and fractured a bone or something . I fractured a bone in my foot by being stupid and could not cycle or run for a year + . I deeply regret my stupidity

That was exactly my "promise" to Mrs B, when she complained of the hills... ie "when we are 75, I will buy eBikes" ;) We bought them 3 years ago, when she was 75. Yes, I know, I am too generous ;)

well I am still on Madones 5.5 and 5.9sl but run more than ride now. Will be 76 this year I have hard racing saddles which I was told are not good for the prostate . I ride on quieter roads at off peak hours 'cause I must admit I feel a tad nervous that some stupid goon in a car will pull out in front of me. Was going to buy a new Yamaha R3 ( 2025 model is gorgeous ) but her indoors is vehemently opposed to it , so maybe no

Barnet,
I went out for a ride at lunchtime, and approaching a Junction, possibly a bit too fast I put the brakes on and it all went a bit sideways. My bike handling skills were up to the mark, i missed the car that was coming towards me and managed to stay upright.
I think the driver was a bit more concerned than i was. 😁

Actually your post sounded like it was straight from GB News 😂😂. And was not what I would have expected from a person that professes to have Christian values.

Just back from volunteering. It was fun, after all who doesn’t like playing with bonfires 🔥.
We were burning all the small trees/ brambles/ blackthorn etc that we have been clearing for weeks to keep the rare orchids happy. Plus we were building bug hotels ie leaving piles of logs . 😂
The only problem is, I have now showered and changed my clothes and still smell like a bonfire. 😀

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
The bin turned up about half an hour before lunch, so we made more. He of course stuffed his face, then had biscuits and 2 cups of tea. He has now gone, thank god.

Had to manoeuvre our sofa out into the driveway for collection by the council. Quite the challenge but standing it on end and swivelling it through the doorway followed by a reverse swivel and tilt saw it out the front door and then it was just a matter of sliding it to the entrance of our driveway. Feeling knackered now, especially as I dismantled a wardrobe yesterday afternoon and carried all the bits downstairs ready for the skip to arrive.
