Fifty plus years of driving and experience of several automatic cars over the years, still prefer manuals.

Must admit I have never even tried an automatic. I want to change gear when I decide.

It's amazing how stupid seem people are. They try to climb Snowden in T shirts, flop flood shorts. It might be beautiful at the bottom but by the time they get to the top the temp has dropped by 25 deg, its foggy, raining and blowing a gale. Many have been caught out. I heard of one woman who climbed up wearing stilleto heels. DER

Yup - as you know I used to live out that way so we went on the paths to teh summit a few times
and before that I used to walk up it a few times when I was younger

We would be walking up with proper boots/shoes and a backpack with waterproofs and food and water even if we were just going up the foothills
and see people heading for the summit in trainers and t-shirts

even in good weather on sunny days in can be damn cold at the summit
and trainers are bugger all use on slippy rocks and don;t protect your ankles at all

but, like the RNLI, Mountain Rescue will come out and rescue anyone in trouble - morons or not!!!

I have new fat balls. Birds didn't like the old ones and they ended up going black and manky.

We have had that before - blooming irritating. They fall out of favour for some reason.

They (the out of favour ones but not black & manky} get put on the ground for the Crows & Jackdaws - they'll eat almost anything!

The first time I drove an auto I nearly put my head through the windscreen as I hit the brakes with my left foot like it was the clutch.
A few months later I had my first auto a Ford Granada est followed by another Ford Granada hatch back and then two Mondeos
I wouldn't go back to a stick shift now.

Our fat balls don't last long enough to go manky. We have so many birds all fighting for some. They hardly last more than 2 or 3 hours.

Met a group of Air Cadets in early 96, who were doing it via the ridge in shorts and t-shirts. With no-one leading them.
We had rope, crampons, ice axes and winter gear.
Their instructor was sat in a minibus in the carpark.

Many years ago on a safe driving course we were advised to use the left foot for braking in an automatic car. I have done so ever since. Something about saving a mili second or so when emergency braking.
