Well.. That was an interesting ride across town once I found un-flooded routes 😂

Bit deeper than I thought..., 🤦‍♂️

Same here tbh.
I went on to be European sales manager for a company owned be Shell Oil. My boss said I was successful because I was "street smart". I think that was a compliment

It didn’t work out so well for me, I just had a nondescript dogsbody job in an office for 32 years, handed in my notice as soon as I was able to get my pension.

I think for me it was right time right place.

My area is quite safe as well but Warrington does sit adjacent to the Mersey so some areas are prone to it.

Same here - Widnes has quite a few areas that are at risk

but I checked here before i moved in and it is on a slight rise and if there is any flooding then it SHOULD flow down the road towards us and then down the cul-de-sac 100 yards up teh road and down to the culverted stream that is loads lower than us

I hope anyway - and assuming that the experts are right

when my wife sold her Mum's house after she died (her Mum - not my wife!!) then the buyer's Dad was worried about flooding

There is a problem there but we knew that it was minimal (i.e. never flooded since they moved in many decades ago) but his Dad was all for flood gates and stuff
we just nodded - what they want to spend money on is up to them once they have bought it but we told them there was naff all risk and pointed out that the flood risk map agreed with us

Good morning all, cool and cloudy here. No flood risk as such but we do sit downstream of two dams so if they were to give way we could be in trouble.

Changing subject, on Pointless yesterday there was a question about people who didn’t graduate. And it seems to me that, certainly in the cycling world, it is now the exception not to have a degree. In the two English clubs I rode with in the 80’s and 90’s hardly anyone had a degree. I’m sure the position would be reversed now. I don’t think this is a good thing.

A lot changed when Blair decided he wanted 50% of people to go to University

Clearly I am making no comment about this - but when I started University in 1978 we were told that in getting into this university - which was only Nottingham and not OXford or anything - meant we wer ein the top 2%

that sort of change is always going to make a huge difference

further comments on that will have to move to "the other place"
