Got caught in a snowstorm walking back with Bruce from dropping Mini D off at school. A real blizzard, driven by that northwesterly wind.

But I made it. Meanwhile the lazy sods are still driving half the distance in their cars, stubbornly refuting to switch on their dipped beams as the law requires in falling snow.

Poor Bruce 😊

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Lunch consumed. 5 deg here. And grandson was a no show thankfully. You snooze you lose as they say

Been out for another ride, it was about 1° when I left the house, approaching 3° when I got back two hours later. I think I’ve sussed the layering required for these temperatures now, I was completely comfortable the whole ride. One of my layers was a 35 year old Assos jacket that I haven’t worn for probably 20 years, but I’m so glad I didn’t throw it out, teamed with a modern Stolen Goat jacket it was perfect for today !
NB I don’t expect to be going out tomorrow, looks absolutely dire !

Same here. Snow eventually turning to rain plus strong winds.

I just seen on the local Facebook that some people had to be rescued from the top of Snowdon last night. They are lucky to be alive as it was minus 9 up there then. Why do people take a risk of going to the top of a mountain when they must know how cold it will be ?

At the bottom of snowdon it can be scorching and by the time you get to the top, you can't see the hand in front of your face, it's torrential rain and -10 in the summer. Some people go up there in T shirts and flip flops.

my grandson's tend to go up with lots of their friends. They take coats, gloves sleeping bags proper boots and trousers maps and god knows what else because the weather can change In 10 minutes.

Clearly they were not properly prepared for the conditions
Unless there was an accident or other event that couldn't be predicted

I used to work with a fell runner - he used to be one of the best around when he was younger and his son was heading that way as well.
Anyway - he still ran in the "veterans" category and they had a race in Snowdonia one weekend. I was a big race and tackled several big mountains - including part of Snowdon

Anyway - the weather was predicted to be bad - but turned out to be terrible with added wind and the rescue people were upt o their eyes trying to save people from mountains.

So on Monday morning we asked him how the race went and if everyone was OK

Not a single problem with the Fell Runners. They were wearing running kit (for cold weather but still running kit. But they were all very experienced in mountains and when the weather went past a certain point every single one of them kicked in planB and headed for the nearest safe place and rang the central point or a relative that could do so
and came along and reported in at the control desk at the finish.
Clearly the race had been abandoned some time before - but a fair few of the runners got changed and went off to help the rescue people

So - if you know what you are doing and come equipped and prepared then only the unpredictable makes you need rescue.

mostly anyway

any road up - need to get off soon to pick kids up from school and stuff

With you 100% on this.

There was a poster in another thread that says his house was 14°C and it was comfy! I cannot comprehend that at all.

Same with people religiously sticking to a date to turn the heating on and off each year. Does not compute. If it is cold it is cold even if the date requirement has not been met.

Yes, we can easily afford our fuel bills but we always said that when we reach old age we will be well fed, well 'watered and warm. And if we weren't we would rather give up.

We have a friend who is not too badly off but lives in a *loody cold house with little heating on to save money. 5 bed detached for 2 people, 1 'swanky'car, 1 'normal' car, golf mad, numerous holidays inc' 2 weeks in Dubai each year (essential apparently). Each to their own but strange priorities imo.

Bit of a rant, sorry!

Enjoy the rest of your day, all.

Totally agree . There is no point being miserable and cold if you don’t have to be . 😀
We are all at home to day so heating is on and set at 18 degrees which is warm enough as we are all doing stuff and the sun is on the house too. The thermometer in the lounge is saying a comfortable 19.6 degrees.
When it gets dark the heating will be turned up to 20 degrees until @8.30pm when it turns it’s self off ( we don’t like warm bedrooms ). But we will have the gas fire on , if we need it, for the rest of the evening.
The forecast for the weekend is looking warmer but wetter and very windy ( 29 to 49 mph winds) . There was going to be huge sailing event at Draycote water this weekend and mrs exlaser and I where going to go and watch tomorrow but it’s been postponed due to the forecasted excessive winds.
Stay safe everyone 😊

I don't have cental heating  I do have a wood burner though. I have been using it on and off. Not so much during the day but at around 4pm I start it. The last few days though I have had it going all day. Its warm here now so I will let the fire die down and maybe start it again later on this afternoon

We put the CH in the morning and the wood burner mid afternoon.
At the moment, we are getting free wood but it won't last.
To buy a builders bag of hard wood is ,£85.

Barnet,
We've had the Central heating on for a few weeks now, MrsP really feels the cold. Only on about 17⁰ and it is warm enough for us. I really don't like being too warm.
It's still pretty cold out there, but due to be up to 13⁰ tomorrow but raining most of the day.

Up to a balmy 1 degree above now. I am really feeling the cold this year for some reason. As much as it’s a thought losing this dry weather and returning to rain, I am looking forward to it feeling milder.
I think it's an age thing Mo. I never used to feel the cold but the past 18 months I've felt it more and more.

At the moment I sleep in the spare room some nights to avoid disturbing Mrs P. She needs the rest and sleep. On my own I have to sleep in a heavy fleece to keep warm in bed.

It's been a pretty good day. I got a lot of things done including new headlight bulbs fitted. I do hope they give me more visibility.

I had forgotten It's Quiz Night. I'm warming up with a G&T and the Guardian cryptic crossword. We came second last month.......onwards!

The lady who was coming to asses the site for the summer house had a terrible time. She rang me in tears. When parking she managed to spin the car and reverse into a stonewall. She straightened up, tried again and scraped the side down the wall!!! She apologised and said she was going home.
