The Retirement Thread

Good morning. It's a beautiful day here. I suspect we had a slight frost early on. Well this hand, foot and mouth thing is pretty horrid. Sore throat, mouth ulcers, spots on hands and soles of the feet. I've slept for 10½ hours so it must be a bit debilitating as well. This came from #2 grandddaughter. She erupted in spots last Tuesday, was with us on the Monday and apparently one is infectious five days before symptoms show. We've cancelled #1 small person for today. We don't want her to catch it, plus her mother is only three weeks from her due date and pregnant women can pass it to the unborn.

Christmas? It's always a big deal in our house. This comes from Mrs P as I can take it or leave it. I find it quite stressful and while I'm far from a skinflint the cost is excessive. #1 son has invited us for Christmas Day which means the whole thing will be a lot quieter for my house. Quite a relief.

So, I have a spare day. Nothing planned. I'll spend some time on the allotment and see how the day rolls.

Cold start - if it warms up by around midday I will dust the Trek off and do some miles.

If it stays this cold I'll walk instead.

Morning all . It’s a chilly start but it’s a little warmer now . Just been to the hospital with my daughter to see the union rep to get her appeal in place .
The union rep has been lovely and has actually written the appeal letter for her ( with input from both of us about her condition) . She normally doesn’t do this but she really thinks my daughter has been treated unfairly and wants to help in anyway she can. Fingers crossed it goes my daughters way but I have warned her the chances of success are small . So she has started applying for other jobs and started the process of applying for job seekers allowance too.
Next on my to do list is do some shopping , some of it for us and some for the sailing club Christmas party that is on at the beginning of December.
Told you I like everything to do with Christmas……. even shopping ! 😀😀

I've just spent an hour in the garden to get over a visit to Tesco...
Had a chat with a Robin, pointing out where the worms were while I dug over the veg plot. . No answer but I think it understood me because as soon as I'd stepped away it flitted down🪱🐦

Bit of a longer walk today.Not down to Meanwood thought that might have been a bit too far.So just local most i have done in three weeks.I was going to pop in to the new cafe but it was busy and i could not see a single seat available,sad really i fancied a croissant they are massive.I will try tomorrow.The hernia seems to be pulling and it has a slight ache,but its only week three tomorrow of six in recovery.And i also think it is cold i am sat with two jumpers on,soddin chemo after effect.

It’s another beautiful day here, feels properly autumnal now that the temperature is down.

We only have a quiet Christmas, just my wife and I and my wife’s 92 yo mother for a few hours on Christmas Day itself. I cherry pick Christmas, the bits that I like I enjoy and the bits that I don’t like I ignore.
