Hello. A terrible sleep last night but I did manage to doze for a couple of hours from 5.00am.

Then it was up, breakfast, kit on and join the club ride. 49 miles, 14avg. My longest since the accident. I felt good on the bike but now I'm shattered. I wore my new Lusso Paragon jacket. Fabulous quality. Very expensive but worth every penny.

Village bonfire at 6.00pm. We have a bonfire, sparklers, burgers or hot dogs. There are no fireworks. It works very well and a nice occasion when the whole village comes together.

My boys won.

We had our bonfire/fireworks t'other night but I paid extra to have garden fireworks ie no sky/big bang ones.

A pleasant day today, trip to Chipping Norton for my son to pick something up he bought off FB, had a coffee and mooched around a bit. it’s a nice little town.

This afternoon they all buggered off so I pottered out on the old Carlton, it was colder than I anticipated so cut my ride short, but still pleasant.

Now into a cold beer with homemade Spaghetti Bolognese in the oven, log burner is lit so ready for a cozy night in.

That really is a nice bike cables you can see Helps when a cable change required Mudguard eyes . Great.

Edit I admit I’m perhaps somewhat of a dinosaur.I was just skimming through cycling weekly,a mag l no longer buy on Redily. As usual wheels cost twice the price of my Sid Motram.1958 That bike took me Youth Hosteling Club runs with Loughborough C T C Rough stuff rides. The occasional Soar Valley Road club evening time trial .It seems that you now need three bikes to meet your cycling needs.Times have changed.cubs close to me seem to be half day affairs and you have to make sure they have snow drop policy.Someone I was talking to me he had an unpleasant experience. He was dropped on a hill and struggled to keep the pace.At the cafe stop it was made pretty clear he wouldn’t be welcome on next weeks ride.He abandoned the ride at the cafe stop

Times I know have changed as have road conditions and time available I am old enough to remember when cycling weekly was about cycling in general not just high priced bikes and components. There was always a Johnny Helms cartoon featuring Bonk and Baz
I have somewhere a book of his cartoons.

I went to the bar. Joanne was serving.

Paul "I'll have a double Jura, please"
Joanne "Is that two?"
Paul "Yes"

I got distracted and chatted to someone. Joanne handed me the whisky. That's generous I thought.

Joanne "That's £12 please"
Paul "Sorry?"
Joanne "You said you wanted two doubles"

I paid up. I've never bought a quadruple whisky before. 😱

I had Raleigh Carlton in a silvery green colour when I was 24. I've always regretted selling it.

BITD people would ride all over then place on them. Tales about of national servicemen riding hundreds of miles on them to get home.

I've always fancied a Velosolex myself.

My dad used to have one in the early 60s and I used to race him when he was riding home after work on Friday nights. I always lost as I was running out of steam before we got home.
