On the declation form on-line you answer all the questions and then press submit, but then they tell you, "but we may still come round and ckeck"..........I have told them the truth, yet they are calling me a lier as they want to check for themselves - WHY, I have told them the truth.
According to the BBC every house hold should have a licence..................
Well if they want to check they will have to get a policeman/women plus a search warrant signed by Southampton court before I will let them in.

She is with Vodafone and she wanted to go to their shop.
I have been with Virgin for years and would go into their shop to select my new phone.
They would sort out all the techy stuff foc.
Sadly Virgin closed their stores so I rely on the grandkids now.

Yes, you are missing the 'no-one's going tell me to buy a licence and I'm going to stick it to the man because I know my rights' attitude.
There lies one of the reasons you cannot sleep at night, the reason they have to check is because there are many people not telling the truth. They do not know you, they have never met you or understand your character, they are just doing their job.

If you tell them exactly that - but be polite and treat then politely - then they will go away
leave out the bit about the Police - they know that
and then ask them - still politely - to leave as you have answered they question.
They visited me many years ago and advised me to move the telly away from the socket - then left
They can;t force entry and they know it - but they do have a job to do so let them do it but don;t let them in

It's the principle where a TV license is concerned and them deciding that they can intimidate people and just walk into their home.

As far as work and retirement go - I never intended to retire
I was quite happy as a part time teacher and part time IT technician in the local Primary school
The Head trusted me and everything IT related came my way - if I didn;t find it first and fix it before it appeared. In fact anything with a plug was often my problem
including the paper shredder
and - at one point - the dishwasher!
but I was trusted and got along with people
but then we got a new Head who basically ignored me - and refused to even ask me about the computers. This resulted in her spending thousands to get the website to do something it could already do!
Anyway she clearly didn;t like me
I checked my pension and found that - weirdly - I would get more if I retired soon (within a few months) than if I stayed on - due to some strange wind down clauses.
So I resigned the next day
I intended to rest for a while then find short term job as an IT Technician in another school - but SWMBO was not well and lived alone so she ended up coming to me so I could keep an eye on her
and then her Mum got ill
then her Mum died
then the pandemic happened
and here we are and I haven't worked again
slightly strange - but I get more pension than we spend per year, including holidays and all that - and there is also my wife's pension ( yes we got married - Yes we were drunk when I asked and she agreed!)
so we are fine - so far
so that is us
