I have a bit of a dilemma. I need to start looking for a new car within the next 2 or 3 months. Do I go for a brand new car that will hopefully Last me 14 years like my present car and will probably be my last one or do I go for a second hand one that costs quite a bit, won't last as long as my present one has and I probably won't have enough money to buy another car unless Uncle Ernie comes up Trumps. Decisions decisions

Nearly new low mileage or ex demo. You would save so much and still get a nearly new car.

I am with @Paulus on this. I have always bought ex demo type cars. If you buy brand new the depreciation as soon as you drive out of the showroom is astronomical.

I’ve finally used my bus pass after nearly 6 years of owning it. My neighbour along the road drives for a local taxi firm who run a mini bus between Comrie and St Fillans on Monday, Wednesday and Friday so I drove to Comrie to give the car a run then hopped on the bus to St Fillans and walked back on the cycle path.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
What about a nearly new.
The fiesta we bough7 years ago was an ex lease car, it was 7 months old and had only done 3500 miles. It was in as new condition and was £8500 less than the new price. Plus it came with 2 1/2 years of the manufacturers warranty left.
It could be worth looking around for something like this.

That was another option I was thinking about.

Don’t be put off by not having anything interesting to say, it doesn’t stop the rest of us. Just go for it. 😂

You might be right there. As you say, you lose money as soon a you leave the forecourt.

Don't know if this fits in here but thought it might be worth a look.

Doing the spadework will count.
When we recently needed to replace our Hyundai, I went round a number of dealers and told them that our Hyundai ticked all the boxes, what do they have available - ?
Ended up at a Kia dealer and bought a two year old Kia Ceed which is essentially a Hyundai in a different suit. Low mileage, still five years on the warranty.
Had already been to one of these huge multi car type places, when I checked later, they had several Ceeds, but all were about the same price and at least double the mileage, so the effort was well worth the legwork. :okay:

I always went for ex-demo cars, but, the last three cars I have bought have been pre-registers. Reasonable discount, and, totally new, warranty, and even the possibility of a choice of colour and model (ie trim level).

Depreciation is a factor of course, but, if you intend to keep the car for a number of years, the annual cost of depreciation diminishes.

Did you ever put out the wrong bin for collection ? ..it happened to me last week  . I am definitely beginning to lose the plot.
Had a stand-off, Mexican, in 2007 with the binmen who demand that I split my rubbish for recycling. Telling them I was banned from recycling led to them calling their manager out.
Showed him the letter, banning me from recycling, and he ordered them to load the bags into the bin wagon, and not to ask me again.
