When I said I can't lose it, I meant with it being attached to a plug, not emotionally attached. :okay:

I got that, don't worry. I don't think the elderly are necessarily emotionally attached to theirs either, but the familiarity and predictably of a landline is a comfort. IMO, Most modern mobile phone devices bar a few specialised ones, aren't made with usability in mind for a generation of people not brought up on or comfortable with computer tech.

There's also the fact that if you have a 'panic button' to call for assistance in case of a fall they're always connected to a landline.
One advantage with our package (Phone/TV /Broadband) is unlimited calls to pretty much any number free at any time so when you call the Doctor/Hospital/Council/Utilities and they put you on 'hold' for half an hour at least it's not costing anything. Another one is Maz's daughter lives in Wiltshire so they can spend upwards of 2 hours nattering likewise with her daughter (Grandaughter no 3 who is autistic) who lives in Marlborough, they can be talking and laughing for up to 3 hours most weeks about music/bands, blokes and boozing. As despite being Autistic Georgia leads a very full life, even works in a charity shop where she gets early dibs on vintage clothes and vinyl LPs she is also about 6 stone so all the clothes from the 50's 60's and 70's fit her unlike the majority of youngish women who are considerably larger and has great taste in music being into Rory Gallagher, Led Zep, Thin Lizzy, Deep Purple and Zappa amongst others (BTW she's only 28)

Some deep landline-thinking going on here! 😂

Accy, you can also ring your phone from your laptop or pc.

No landline here. Disposed of during our 'down with BT' campaign some years ago.

Although we do currently have a very fat pigeon* in the garden. The greedy bugger could possibly be press-ganged into emergency service.

*As an aside; there is a charming squirrel and cute rabbit out there too. Very 'country'.

Crikey! That is a fantastic taste in music, right up my street. Protect her at all costs.

How much have you paid for the privilege of that service of finding your phone in all that time accy?

I'm currently paying a fortune for an out-of-contract copper landline with Plusnet, a Huawei mobile router, and a mobile phone. If the Huawei had done what it says on the tin I would have closed the Plusnet account over a year ago, but it doesn't, so I carry on dithering about what to do and paying for the whole lot. I was all set to swap to Vodafone fibre which includes telephone, until I found out that they don't provide permanent number withhold, which is a deal breaker.

There are a variety of options I'd be prepared to try, but I don't want to have to commit to a 24 month contract unless I'm happy, and if I'm not happy I can't go back to copper line once it's gone anyway.

I think it depends on the situation. We need a landline to deliver broadband. I think our current package has a phrase like "includes line rental."

We occasionally get incoming calls on the landline. I don't recall the last time it was used for personal calls. The charge is £1/minute. I did use it for 999 in January 2019 and given the situation having a landline probably saved my life.

We also have a package that includes a land line for broadband and for calls. We actually use it a lot, and when we are forced to go broadband only sometime in the next 18 months, we'll probably get an IP phone to replace it, though AIUI we'll have to change number.

Mobile reception is crap here. I can only use my mobile by using WiFi calling, or going outside.

we have a land line included with our package ans i had to add free calls for a nominal fee monthly as the rest of the family cant grasp the concept that they have a mobile phone each that they get unlimited calls anyway .

last night knelt down to get stuff out of a kitchen cupboard and my knee made a crunchy noise and a jolt of pain , its still a bit tender today so not doing anything serious on it , did some bodyweight squats and that was fine as it only is niggly in a full bend.

Not only that she prefers Vinyl to any other format, mine and Maz's LP collections are for her when we fall off our perches with one of the quality turntables probably Maz's Project 6:9 (£1,800 new) with an Ortofon OM30 cartridge (£250 new) as it's less fiddly than my modified Thorens

I don't kneel down these days. I can bend down, but kneeling is very difficult to get up from, so I use similar to below to pick things up with.

I've been dreading when we get snow, leading to icy paths and roads come winter. Where I live I park my car on a slightly sloping road, that resembles an ice rink when the snow gets packed then frozen, making walking across it to my car treacherous! The path from flat to car and back is bad, but I seriously dread that frozen road. I've tried those stretch over shoes spiked thingies, but they weren't that good and I never felt confident when walking with them on ice, plus a few spikes fell off them. Do any of you have a pair of very good ones you could recommend? 🤔
