I was going to put this in the TV thread but I thought better here.
I've just finished the 'Abandoned Railways From Above' series on All4, features 6 lines from Engalnd, Wales and Scotland. It's really nicely shot with a unique view of the line I'm normally used to seeing on a Google Maps search. All of them are very pretty but more importantly (particularly the welsh line I feel) were vital connections with no replacement to this day. Its quite an informative series and covers quite a lot of local and national history that the railways influenced.
The six lines are:
- Somerset and Dorset (Bath to Bournemouth)
- Varsity Line (Oxford to Cambridge)
- Scarborough to Whitby Railway
- Carmarthen to Aberystwyth Line
- York to Hull Line
- Waverly Route (Carlisle to Edinburgh)
The ones in bold I've visited, and have cycled part/all of 3 and 5
. Some pics:
Scarborough to Whitby - Now the Cinder Path - Larpool Viaduct - Solo ride
Waverly Line - Whitrope Heritage Centre - Solo Visit (no bike)
