Mad Doug Biker

Just a damaged guy.
Location
Craggy Island
My arms are all sore, muscularly, because I have been doing so much sanding (albeit a battery sander as we have no mains electricity) on the '311, as well as humphing the ladder about as I have been doing work at roof height over the past few days.

The glamour of the preservation movement, eh?

At least my chest isn't sore any more.

Whilst we were in The Isle Of Man, from 17th -21st July (16 images linked) we travelled on the 'heritage'/tourist lines
That said, it did appear that a person, who had the IOM travel-card could use the steam-railway, & the 'trams' as a commuter lines, which was a great idea

Douglas Station (we rode to Peel)

We didn't go on the horse-tram

The coach was waiting at Peel, & took us back to Laxey, to transfer to the Snaefell Mountain Railway (see 'part 3)
The Snafell car has the 'bow catenary' (to cope with windy conditions on the mountain)

As continued to Ramsey, we ran alongside the Snaefell line briefly, before it began its ascent

I was in Isle of Man in May and did the Horse, Steam, Electric and Mountain Railways. And yes you are right about the card, we bought ours as tourists but they are free to use for residents.

On the Electric Railway the carriage that is open sided is fairly thrilling to ride in as it does get up to a fair pace, its apparently one of the steapest none cable/toothed railways in existance. There are some interesting halts on that line also where you can visit the various Glens. One I missed was Groudle Glen, it has its own minature railway and was once home to a Victorian Zoo complete with bears and sea lions!

Snaefell Mountain Railway can result in some spectacular views, though not on the day we visited!

I used to go once ot twice a year for work. Didn't like it: huge private affluence, public squalor, and the whole fairy/Mannannan thing was a bit Wicker Man.
