I've been to a few events and gatherings, and it was great to see people having a good time, sharing a sense of community spirit and civic pride.

a few? how many - are you on a butty and cake snaffling mission?
I understand the folks over the road from my mum (the one she peers at through the blinds) invited her via a neighbour to their shindig, which was nice, but I think she passed.

can't help but think that blue chillbox in the middle might have something stronger in it.
One of the pleasures of rural summer bike riding is coming across small community events I think.

That's not how a monarchy works, it isn't a popularity contest.

I understood that @SpokeyDokey was suggesting we end the monarchy altogether after Lizzie's reign ends. Not a bad idea since the current heir to the throne is already a pensioner and a rather unpopular successor.

would have to be a popular vote on it of course.
I rather suspect that the vote would be for at least the core monarchy to remain.
(republican here but democrat)
