Lancaster us just taking off from Coningsby

I was watching it (on adsb exchange) seeming do loops around the area, I gather they've just done some maintenance work on it, probably giving it a test / workout ready for this weekends flights

Was given a book by my daughter with picture of planes (she knows how sad I am lol)

There are pics of a MIG 29, it looks like it has been put together by a 12 year old, not sure how it flies so fast without bits falling off.!!

We had one fly over the back garden, really low, you could even see the, iirc City of Lincoln emblem on it, the sound was amazing, but it made me think, a Halifax bomber crashed, about 700/800 yards south of where our house is in 1944, after knocking the roofs off houses across the main road, imagine seeing something that size heading straight for you ! Apparently all the boys diverted on their way to school to go get some war loot off it

Size is relative. As an erk at RAF St. Athan just before Battle of Britain day in, I think, 1973, I was impressed by a Lancaster, presumably PA474, which was parked alongside a Vulcan. The Vulcan looked big enough to have eaten the Lancaster for breakfast. How quaint and small it was, I thought at the time. Yet close up, the main wheels of the Lancaster are as tall as a man. Both Avro aircraft, and ironically the Lancaster is still flying while all the V bomber fleet is now gone or grounded.

Heard the Lancaster passing Peterborough a short while ago, headed up toward Lincs and ultimately Conningsby I suspect.
In watching that on ADSB, I see Triple31 Eurofighter meandering around East Anglia, North of Lakenheath etc, up toward Kings Lynn , looks quite aimless, currently over Downham Market. They cover a lot of ground rather quickly.
On way past Peterborough this afternoon, spotted a glider sat in a field, ran out of thermal no doubt. Shame, he/she was only maybe 5 miles as the crow flies from Sibson airfield.,.which would have been a lot easier to get picked up from.

Ordered a new handset for Ham and cheeky 446 use. It arrived today and was pleasantly surprised to find it had airband. Programmed it up, commented it to the Diamond X30 dual band in the loft and Cranfield tower came booming in. One of the nicest airband radios I've used, very easy to program on the pooter, a fast scan and inexpensive too.

In aviation circles, a long term goal has been a replacement for the legendary DC-3. Maybe it's been there all along. It ain't pretty, but it works. Rugged, versatile, long lasting, good operating economics, fairly easy to maintain (relatively speaking). Several attempts have been made to produce a replacement for the Herc over the years too, but it continues, though under the skin the current incarnation is a completely different beast from the original. Like the DC-3, it's instantly recognisable to even non aviation enthusiasts.
