brilliant race. I hadn't realised that laws and Poole were not riding for overall but to support Cooke.
What happened just before the final sprint ? she lost it on the corner and had to sprint back to the leaders then immediately launch another sprint. What amazing talent and strength

Two thoughts..

1 She had had a go at the (?) Dane earlier about her line, and it is sugested that she simply either stayed clear or took an aoviing line rather than risk a crash

2. She skidde and recovered.

Either way - a brilliant effort and finish, but having said that the effort and support of the other two must not be forgotten.

What are you moaners doing watching a cycling race in the Olympics?

How can you denigrate the Olympics in one post then wax lyrical in another about a sport you like?

Extraordinary.

Most of us said that we weren't interested in the Olympics per se, but would be interested in watching the cycling! Not extraordinary at all.

Well I'm really enjoying the olympics at the moment (politics aside). I'm at work today and during my lunch I sat and watched the judo finals. Excellent. I love the fact that this time around you can watch what you want, not just what the BBC thinks is important!

Actually I will be watching the judo later this week with even greater interest. On Tuesday Euan Burton will be fighting for team GB (he's Scottish). He is in with a shout. Most impressively though, on the two occasions that I fought him in competition I beat him quite convincingly.xx(

(Of course that was about 7 years ago and he might have improved a little bit since then....:o)

Remind me not to mess with you when we meet!

These particular cycling races wouldn't be there without the Olympics being there. So, extraordinary.

i think there's a case for making it a team event, as cooke showed last time that even the best rider can't win it on her own. team csc proved it in this year's tour most convincingly.

I tried Judo about ten years ago but it was really hard! It's a LOT more physically demanding than a non-contact sport like Karate. Respect dude.

It's hard bloody work alright. I always fancied taking it up, but never found a gym I liked the look of or the time to do it.

I think it is as hard as you want it to be. Obviously a good club makes a difference, but a good club can cater for all levels and ambitions. I do like a good hard practice though, and have on many occasions gone to work the next day with a bruise or three on my face!

I remember once girl who started at our club, nice quiet, slim, small and polite. She would say sorry all the time. She left the club 3 years later with her brown belt and a very tough attitude on the mat!

We also had a chap who joined (university club) who wanted to be like the power rangers! Funnily enough he never came back after the second night!

You obviously haven't heard of kyokushin then :

I don't do karate but this is a very hard style and not for the feint hearted

My cousin does judo and even though he is not olympic standard it has got him out of a few scrapes.
I remember someone telling me a story about a fight in a chippy when some locals had a go at three guys who were in the shop. The 3 guys were members of the GB judo squad so you can guess what happened.

I'm quite excited about it actually. Not that fussed about athletics etc generally but I like the heritage of the games. I'll watch the cycling, the gymnastics (those girls are amazing) and will probably get into something random. I saw a bit on TV about that 14 year old diver so I'll try to watch him!!

I do hugely regret that the games were given to China though. I know few countries (if any) are faultless in their human rights etc, but China don't deserve the games, in my personal view.

I'm VERY excited about 2012 though!!

Although I expect I'll be shouted down!

I'm glad to find another enthusiast...

I like the Olympics, though agree about the China bit.
I also love to watch athletics, Gymnastics, Rowing... in fact may other sports that we don't see very often on the TV.

Even enjoy all the ceremonial stuff as well, interseting to see how a nation promotes itself.

It's only once every four years FFS, ... I was reminded today that the bloody footy season started again today
