I used the cord today on the hat's maiden voyage! It's quite fiddly, so in the powerful wind we had, it was very hard to unfasten it to button onto my jacket, so I nipped into a shop asking if it was ok to do the task in there. They said yes, so I fastened the button through my lapel's button hole. The hat didn't blow off, but at times it felt like it was going to, with me out of habit immediately grabbing the brim, not being used to relying on the cord to save the hat fr

I tie my hats on too , depending what I'm wearing, if the Pith helmet, I have 2 bootlaces, one under the chin, one around the nape of the neck ,lf particularly breezy , I fasten a loop in one end,tie the other to the headband with it loosely round my neck.

If a baseball cap or some other , a loop around the adjuster then tie to the label of my top,
I tend to wear hats to keep the sun from my eyes.
The Pith helmet does a grand job. All round protection from UV sun, acts as a bump cap, and protects my eyes from the spikes of errant umbrellas, every one ought to have one on the hatstand , and!

I've thought about buying a pith helmet on a few occasions, but always backed down due to the eccentricity aspect of wearing such a hat around town. I don't/can't walk in the beautiful countryside around here these days due to mobility problems, but if I could maybe I would wear a pith helmet, but then again maybe not. No matter where you are while wearing one you're going to get some odd looks! I'd say they'd be seen as far more eccentric than the deer stalkers I'd wear around town, always preferring to wear deerstalkers on country walks.🧐

There's something about an animal fur fedora hat in the rain that makes it so superior to a wool one! I wore the new black Hilditch & Key/Bates hat yesterday. While out and about it started to rain. That certain pitter patter tapping noise as the raindrops hit the hat then bounce off, tells you how stiff and waterproof the material of the hat is, compared to a slightly rain absorbent wool material fedora which when absorbing the rain instead of deflecting it (but still keeping the head warm) doesn't have that certain sound. 🧐

I don't care what others perceive of me , as I already attract attention with my size, but the Pith you wear would probably need to be of the french colonial style, rather than the British Para-military style, plus a 'safari ' suit, with a muslin band to unsettled 'teste' fly's tied around the crown of the hat.
Although a ' Wosley' pattern helmet attracts me,thats the one the royal Marines wear as a dress uniform hat, very spendy tho'.
Is the Forest of Bowland ,really suited to such a dress style?

Maybe, though I haven't cycled through the Trough of Bowland since I think 2017. 🤔 🧐
