Those blokes in the photo are absolutely in costume, 100%. That's the entire point, they're not trying to dress smart, they're trying to look like characters. They're on a day out and having some fun with it. Similar to that picture of Colman Domingo I posted. It's not everyday wear, it's designed for people to take photographs.

The clothes we wear exist in a context and people are going to look at them in that context. That yellow suit looks cool AF, but even if I had a body like Domingo's (sorry girls & gays but I most assuredly do not) I couldn't wear something like that just out and about. But I can pick out parts of it and think how they might work with the clothes I do wear. In this case I do like the high waist on the trousers and it's something which does go well with some of my usual outfits.

To me those outfits are more costume than everyday wear, but I do like that chap on the right's teddy bear prop. They have three quite old teddy bears for around £40 each in Accrington Antiques. According to the shop's owner, they were found in the attic, when clearing out an old lady's house after she died. They always say stuff like that don't they when selling such things. Anyway, wherever they are from they do look quite old and very well made. I looked to see if any had a Steiff label. None did, but I still might buy one as a prop. What do you think 🤔

By the way, the one behind his right shoulder with the green hat looks like he went into a charity shop to find his none matching costume. Made even worse by his shirt's top button undone and his tie's knot slovenly tied.

For a moment there Accy I thought you mentioned Acorn Antiques, Mrs Babs, and Mrs Overalls and her french Macaroons !
I ought to read more closely.

You don't half find some odd stuff if you start searching for string vests. This looks... cozy.

Dread to think these would be in your drawers !

One size fits all?! Hmmmm. And given the number of stories about sizing issues from Chinese retailers, I think I'll pass.

It doesn't scream quality. I can't imagine it would stand up to the repeated washing it would inevitably require.

I think I'd better pass on that until I'm home then

Are you married? In a relationship? Are you hoping to remain so?

but surely that blurs the line between dressing smartly and some kind of theatre.
And maybe that's why so many folk now wear pretty much similar outfits; t-shirt, jeans & white trainers, or mostly black outfits because they don't want to appear to stand out as individuals - ?
I complimented a lass on her outfit recently, saying it's good to see something different. One of the lads with her remarked on my Hi viz fleece, as not being very 'different' to many other folk.
I quickly replied that it makes me an easier target for errant motorists, which was returned with a big grin - !

After quite a few wears, I'm very impressed by the above trousers! So much in fact that I'm now thinking about buying the matching jacket and waistcoat. Like the trousers, the jacket and waistcoat are reduced in price in the Cordings sale. If I were to buy both, then the suit, as it'd become would cost me £610. The total Cordings sale saving on the the 3 piece suit would be £275. £610 (plus £14 for 2 deliveries) for a high quality suit is very tempting! The only problem I can see is would the jacket fit me well? As I've said quite a few times before, I have long 25 inch arms. If I were to buy the jacket I'd order it in 40L, hoping the arms would be long enough. Yes, you can return none altered items, so there is that, but I'm not a fan of returning stuff via the post.

Both items were ordered last night. I also got an extra 10 percent off, so the jacket and waistcoat were £425.50. The trousers were £145, so I've bought a Cordings suit for £570.50, not counting the 2 £7 deliveries. That's not bad for a suit that was £885, not including P&P. So I've saved £314.50. I was about to press confirm when I hesitated, thinking if the jacket's 40L size was big enough. I held back and looked at a jacket I bought 4 years ago, remembering I had to send the first one back because it was too tight. On looking at that jacket I saw it was a 42L. I'm glad I decided to check that jacket's size as I'd probably have had to send the 40L Cordings jacket back and order it in 42, which I eventually did.

No opportunities to wear anything in anger since the holiday, although freshly-single-midlife-crisis mate did cite my poloneck fetish as inspiration for his latest binge on the same, which makes me feel a bit validated / special
