I dunno if I'm just watching this differently, but I don't see it as a red? 50/50 which he wins cleanly, and sure his follow through is a bit hefty but I've seen worse go unpunished.

A yellow seems about right to me.
No, it should have been a straight red. The follow through isn't "hefty", it's potentially career ending. He's not in control at all, and whether he wins the ball or not is irrelevant ("A player is guilty of serious foul play if he uses excessive force or brutality against an opponent when challenging for the ball when it is in play. A tackle that endangers the safety of an opponent must be sanctioned as serious foul play").

I say that as an Arsenal fan that saw Ramsey, Eduardo and Diaby all suffer horrendous leg snapping tackles. We need tackles like that out of the game. That worse has gone unpunished is an indictment of our refereeing.

I've just watched it, and that was absolutely a red.

Worse may have gone unpunished, but they shouldn't have. Follow through was more than "a bit hefty", thaht could easily have resulted in a broken leg.

It was reckless.

"Reckless" as defined in the rules results in a yellow, that's what he was pulled for, not serious foul play.

Not often (if ever) I am on the side of the officials!

Don't want to fall out with you but as I said, even Duncan Ferguson(one of the greatest ever Everton player) said "it's a red all day long". Every pundit I've listened to including the Manc Gary Neville says straight red.
Do you not think there is a chance you could be wrong ?

No point looking for things in your defence there. The world knows what's what there. Anyone arguing in favour of the referee clearly knows Scottish Football Association about football. Or is a toffee.

Yeah, I suppose I could be. Certainly not looking to fall out over anyone over it or have an argument, just a different opinion is all.

It's interesting though that people say "back in the day it would have been fine, but it has no place in the modern game". And yet will bemoan football becoming a non contact sport...

On the subject of bad tackles, the worst I ever witnessed (other than the Sunday League stuff I was involved with) was Gary Caldwell ending David Fernandez's career with a late challenge that destroyed his ligaments. He was booked for that.

I well remember Stevie G getting a red in the Merseyside Derby and I accepted it really was a red. It does happen in these fiery games.

When even the referee's association says it was a red card, Tarkowski still won't go to jail - and he may have faced that if he'd done it on a street near you. And that green goblin can wipe the victorious grin off his coupon as well. His team have won nothing for THIRTY YEARS!
