A rare moment of insight from the pundits saying the players taking them after the main 5 are under more pressure because they have to score and haven't stepped up in the first place.

Absolutely agree, who wants a central defender taking a penalty kick?

Also, as someone who is secretly riddled with superstition and self doubt, the 13th kick is always the hardest.

Can anybody explain to me how the incident that took Welbeck out of the game wasn't a penalty?

The ref gave a foul against Welbeck, and the commentators didn't say anything, nor does it sound as if VAR even looked at it.

But Lindelof came from behind, and contacted Welbeck's foot before reaching the ball, which to me is a foul. And I can't see that it should be a foul BY Welbeck when he then hits the back of the legs of the player who has just come across him from behind.

Haven't seen the replay/highlights but I thought Lindelof just clipped the ball before contacting Wellbeck at the time. If you're getting the ball before the man, then it's not a foul/penalty unless it endangers your opponent.

Could be totally wrong but didn't see an issue. I'm not shy of criticising refs or VAR and I'm certainly no Man Utd fan, but if the opposite is the case then I'd feel pretty hard done by as a Brighton fan.

I assume that is what the ref thought as well, but why VAR didn't have a look at it, I don't know.

He definitely caught Welbeck's foot before he touched the ball.

I found myself wanting Man Utd to win their semi-final. That was because I watched Blackburn play at their old Goldstone ground in 1978. I left my home at 7am that Saturday and got home at around midnight after a turbulent day. Our coach broke down outside London, so we didn't get there till half time. Fifteen minutes into the second half many of their 'fans' decided to attack our small number of fans. The police took us out the ground for our own safety and took us back to our coach outside a nearby grassed park. Our driver not expecting us back till 5pm had gone for a brew, or a stroll whatever, so the coach was locked up. After the game and before our driver got back, which Brighton won, many of their 'fans' came at us again, being repelled by baton waving police on horseback. On the way back we stopped at a pub (The Brown Cow) and got more abuse, verbal this time from more Brighton 'fans'. So, yesterday I thought who do I want to make the final. Then that day in 1978 came back to me!

You should have been at Upton Park for the last game of the '66/'67 season when United got the win they needed to clinch the title. Gates locked at 1:45 before the 3pm kick off (I just got in) with the ground overflowing and an afternoon of some of the worst violence I have ever seen at a match, nearly all caused by the MU fans. There was even a bonfire on the North Bank at one point when they were burning captured West Ham hats and scarves.

That's why even to this day Man U fans always get a kicking when the visit West Ham, most of our fans weren't even born then, but the memory is enshrined in folklore and never forgotten.

Did they ever find the ball after that March penalty? It was bloody miles off and he didn't appear to slip.
