All I'm saying is that your and my view of "respect" are at odds. In my book it involves actually acknowledging what someone else has spent 279 pages saying, rather than wading in with the same old thing yet again.

I don't believe that respect needs to be earned. In my experience if you start from the point of view of treating others with respect then you're more likely to understand what they're saying.

And in my book treating people as others - "they" and discussion as something you "win" - "onwards and upwards" is disrespectful.
