The comparative size of cars

On later versions of my Accord you could fold half the rear seat back down, and make room for large luggage items to protrude from the boot into the cabin.

I have been able to do that with my last 2 cars

not sure about this one as we have not had it for long and it always has a child seat in it so I have not tried it yet!!!

They have to be, or they can't reach the pedals and steering wheel.

Making cabins smaller isn't really increasing safety, it's just excluding taller people.

I think you're missing the point. The pedals and steering wheel are now further back from the bulkhead (the metal that seperates you from the engine bay) because the front passengers have been moved backwards to afford drivers more space before their legs get crushed.

The cabins are smaller as there is more pretection/distance from the panels. They didn't make the interior have less volume for no reason.

As far as room inside is concerned - I am confused by people buying an SUV type car because it has more room

when I have looked at some of them the actual space inside is about the same
and in some cases the level area in the boot is not that much - more height but you generally don;t use the height
My ex-Mrs had a long wheelbase Landrover, whilst it theoretically was a 12 seater minibus, there was a lot less space in the
rear section than you'd expect. Ok it wasn't cramped or anything, but my Mondeo estate could likely take a bigger item. It was bought to tow a horse trailer, which it did superbly, and she didn't do that much daily driving in it. It was reasonably reliable overall, given it wasn't in great condition when we got it.

Always puzzled me

they made a great off road car (so I'm told) that was also a great luxury car
but made it with terrible rust resistance and made it unreliable

typical of them at the time
Land-Rover still supported the rest of BL, as it was the only part to consistently make a profit (bled off to prop up the rest)

My last Landy was a 110Td5 CSW

Our small Ka bought in 2012 and we have owned this car for nearly 13 years. It suits us just fine and probably the last car we will ever own. Still has the original battery and 50 mpg plus £30 ved.

Yup. I'm 6'4" and drive a Skoda Citigo most of the time. Fits me fine.

I shared one with my daughter until she crashed it. They’re surprisingly spacious and all the car most of us need most of the time.

What's that monstrosity?

The all new 'Ford School Run' - an absolute must for the new mum

One feature that will appeal to many is the new lights - they have used actual lasers, not only will you be able to dazzle all facing trafic, you should be able to melt their windscreens

Rumour is, Audi have an even bigger brighter version

One of the best thing I have seen was a car where the rear seat had 3 positions so you could have it right back for lots of leg room - middle for normal use and right forward for less leg room but more boot spaces

can't remember which car it was though
Was it the Kodiaq?
The slide fore & aft by about 9"
It surprised me, when I bought mine, back in May '21
I did wonder about it, but..... it's for commonality with the 7-seater, to allow easier access to the 3rd
As for internal space, it's certainly big enough, & on a par with a Superb (& can be made bigger still, but sliding that 2nd row forwards)

I've noticed the difference, driving around our B roads. In the 70's used to drive old bangers, A40's and the like and a little MG Midget. Used to be able to drive around without any worries, knowing that you'd always get past oncoming traffic.
Now when I see an oncoming car, nearly always slow down and often forced to pull over to the side and squeeze past the oncoming car.
