Dog roses apparently, quite apt as out walking Oscar when we noticed them 💕Caught the fragrance from this flower bush on our walk this morning as we passed, stopped to take it in then aware of the buzzing sounds as the bees went about their business. Later on saw some wee moths fluttering about the moss, all in pairs, usually one light and one darker. Managed to get a pic of one of them.

Speaking of grass, the 'wildflower meadow' marked out in one of my local woods seems to have turned into more of a wild grass meadow...

Well, grasses can be beautiful too.
slightly off on a tangent - do "wild" poppy fields occur naturally or are they planted for a reason - there is a lovely one near me at the momentWell they are supposed to be fields of grass - thats what 'meadows' are, - usually for grazing or cutting for forage -
the 'wildflower' part is something that occurs naturally alongside the grass - in lower nutrient situations as a natural consequence - or in some cases deliberately planted
Poppies usually occur in disturbed ground - the seeds can lie dormant for years - until given enough exposure to germinate.slightly off on a tangent - do "wild" poppy fields occur naturally or are they planted for a reason - there is a lovely one near me at the moment
Thank you. This definitely arable cultivation related, unless I missed the battle of Bedmond! I knew about the battlefield link, but not why, so cheers. everyday's a schoolday.Poppies usually occur in disturbed ground - the seeds can lie dormant for years - until given enough exposure to germinate.
So they will tend to be more prevalent in arable crops where the soil has been cultivated.
And on battlefields where everything has been blown to bits
Usually when I try to id anything I find that whatever it is cannot be found anywhere near where seen. However while I am by no means an expert your moth looks like a Scalloped Oak. Anybody is free to contradict me if they really know. There are of course several moths which look similar.Caught the fragrance from this flower bush on our walk this morning as we passed, stopped to take it in then aware of the buzzing sounds as the bees went about their business.
