Well after a week of not eating well, (fell of the Paleo wagon spectacularly:sad:), this mornings Parkrun is going to be a case of just surviving I fear.

If anyone mentions the letters PB to me this morning I won't be responsible for my actions.

Still, it would have been easier to roll over and stay in bed, but I'm up and at 'em and going to go.

Just hoping I survive

I survived  A bit off PB pace but I expected that so no surprise there.

I had planned to just get round today, but with about 75 meters to go my mate starts shouting like a man possessed, (having already finished), so I lit the afterburners for a sprint finish*

Details HERE

*my version of a sprint finish at least
Nice one. 304 calories burnt - you can treat yourself to cake time^_^

Well after an approx. 5 week lay off, (self imposed lazyitis:ninja:), I have decided to get back to Parkrun this Saturday :wahhey:

They actually changed the course after the last time I ran, and TBH it's now a bit harder and is running around 30-40 seconds longer than before due to the elevation :cursing:

I think I've let this mess with my head and keep me away, well no more:stop:

Despite blood doning after work today I've just been out for a quick trot and did 2.53 miles in 26:45, not quick by any stretch of the imagination, but I am 6' 5" and 19 stone after all, and my Parkrun PB is only 26:59 so I was quite pleased with that as I've hardly even been on the bike either in the past few weeks!

So new month = new motivation, roll on Saturday :heat::biggrin:

Ha. Just had a look at a few local runs and noticed that my next door neighbour, a woman in her 40s, is usually first in one of them in times as low as sub 18 mins

Often do Parkrun Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham. Consistently annoyingly above 22 mins every week. Usually less than 10s above, but above nonetheless.

Not done it for a month or two, though.

Increase your milleage and add a bit of variety. Speedwork (intervals) and fartleks usually do the job! ;)
A structured training plan is usually essential when you feel you reached a plateau. Runners World (Smartcoach) and My Asics are quite decent!

Or I could just give up and concentrate on the cycling? :headshake:

I know I did! And I can tell you I'm a better cyclist than ever been a runner!! Still fancy a couple of runs a week, but can't be bothered with races and parkruns.. Most of all, can't be bothered with structured training plan and without it you're bound to get frustrated. Most times I go out, I don't even attempt to put my garmin on.. :headshake:I just run! (got my mojo back that way..)

Well after a 5 week lay off I finally dragged my sorry @rse back to Bolton Parkrun this morning, and the verdict is...........................not good

Me though, not the course. They changed the course a few weeks ago for safety reasons, and this was my first time on the new course. We have a hill that you run twice and although you still only run it twice you now run the second ascent in much quicker succession that before, and then there is a new, all be it less drastic hill to contend with after that as well.

So all in all it runs a fair bit harder than before, and coupled with my lay off and recent poor diet the overall effect was not good. 30:20 recorded on my Garmin. The official times have always been a bit quicker TBH, but I'll have to wait and see if the official time gets me sub 30.

FWIW my PB, (on the old course of course), was 26:59, so I've got a way to go to get back to that territory :heat:

Well, did Parkrun again last Saturday. Felt OK, Until Sunday, when DOMS hit me like a brick wall. Not yet fully recovered this morning. And saw my result - now can't even get below 23mins.

Why do I run?

The last run I did was in 1984... the NECC 5 mile Fun Run. Yes, exactly, a five mile run- for fun...
Needless to say I was young and still able. 35 minutes, I'll not be doing that again anytime soon.
